I was just pulling into my driveway early this morning when the engine in my 85 just quit?? Tried to restart it, nope, turns over, but won't start. Gas gauge was reading about 4 gal. and it didn't throw any codes?? Any help would be great, Thanks
Are you sure your gauge is correct? Squirt a little starter fluid in the TB and see if she catch's, If not check for spark and fuel pressure to start with. Hope it's something simple
1) Check for fuel at the rail. Schrader valve is on the passanger's side of the engine. Remove cap and press in on the valve stem (looks like a tire valve). Got fuel?
2) Check for spark. Pull a plug wire, insert a screw driver into the boot and hold by the handle so that you have a small gap between the shaft and a ground, have someone crank the engine....GOT spark?
Went out this AM after the rain to check my car, and it started right up??? Everything checks just peachy, maybe something got wet, or the car's possessed?? Thank's for all your response's
Was it raining when the car shut off?
you may have splashed water up on the starter and it found a naked wire or two. Once everything dried out you were able to start it.
if it wasn't raining when it shut off. take short trips till it shows up again and you get the issue solved.
I had a similar problem with my 87.Turned out to be a loose wire to the fuel pump just under the fuel filler door. It would happen sporadically then finally not start at all. Found it when I checked the pump. Apparently is a common problem, I've heard
Damn, it happened again, it is a no fuel problem, as soon as i can I'll be tearing into the fuel pump, turned it on and there was no fuel coming out??? Don't know if it a wire or the pump?? maybe fuse??
i had a similar situation on my 85,after checking every possible cause it ended up bein the oil pressure switch, which wud shut down the fp,replaced it with an ac delco unit due to it bein discontinued by gm.it hasnt done it again
