Default Brake Upgrade

I am starting my search now for next tax season on brake upgrades. The car has a lot of upgrades and is runnin close to 400hp, but never had brakes upgraded.

Who has done what. I have seen the popular c5 upgrade, but is there anything a little less expensive out there? I would like to find a price on a system that includes at least front and rear rotors drilled and slotted that comes with performance pads. Calipers seem ok, but if I found a system that included them for the right price I would go with it.

Thanks

if i were looking to upgrade my c4's brakes without going to the C5 setup, i'd probably go with this route. front and rear is probably going to set you back 5-bills or so --

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-95...item1c0a6bb978

there are so many stock-replacement, performance grade components out there, you'll go into "information overload" looking at that stuff. google brake rotors performance, and you'll see what i'm talking about.

I'll check the link when I get home, work doesnt allow ebay...lol But yeah, I understand fully about the info overload, thats what I did and with all those options I was just looking to see what was a fairly common upgrade. Easier to work off of personal experience than go in blind. lol $500 is about what I figured and I can handle that...upgrade the rotors and pads and have the calipers powder coated red.

So, thanks for the info!

You already have the big 13" rotors and J55 calipers so as far as caliper improvement C5 is your only choice unless you go aftermarket $$$

Just be careful and make sure you have wheel clearance with any upgrade over the J55. Not all 17" wheels will clear some of the brake upgrades out there.

Drilled and slotted rotors won't be an upgrade in performance, they are for looks only if that's what you mean by upgrade. Your pads will make the biggest difference in stopping power. Use a good pad, Carbotech makes good stuff.

Unless you're tracking the car, J55's with good pads like the Carbotech, are really all you need. Well, maybe a $20 brake bias spring, too.

Even moving to the C5 upgrade would not gain much over the J55. I did it because the cost of rotors is less and the C5 rotors are thicker and cool better. All this is better for track, but if this is just a street driven car, get some good pads and call it a day.

Well, I like the look of the drilled and slotted, so yes, thats an appearance thing. The pads however I want for performance and most packages seem to have both.

I would really love to have the calipers that are stamped CORVETTE. But I dont want to change the sizes of anything, I want the same sizes rotors and calipers, just a "cleaner" look. Its a corvette, it should stand out in every aspect! =)

More than likely though, I will just take the calipers off and have them resurfaced and powder coated when I have the wheels redone.

I have the GS Calipers and Two piece Wilwood GT rotors which are a direct replacement for the J55 13" brakes.

The GS Calipers were used but the two piece Wilwood GT Rotors were new. I bought everything from a Corvette Forum member here for $500! I use the Hawks HPS brake pads which perform Great!

Forum member LIMEY (in Florida, I think) was selling complete NOS GS front sets for $450+ shipping. I bought one myself, but am not sure I'll be using it. Let me know if you might be interested...
PS Nice looking car (and family). Lucky you with an LT4!
