Guys,...I wanna replace all the u-joints on the Vette I picked up last week. I was wondering if there is any joints to get that are better than any others or are the stock ones usually the best to stick with? What about just the parts store brand? This car will not be drag raced or even driven very hard. Mostly just a daily driver. Who has the best price?
I had my driveshaft ones replaced with OEM hardware when i had my clutch installed. Halfshafts are still fine at 70K. Mid America has them for all around $100. I was planning on getting the Mid America ones if I ever replaced them my self, but just had the mechanic order them with the clutch work. MAD ones look to be OEM or better.
I did all 6 over Christmas....Not a lot fun but well worth the time if you don't mind getting dirty. I used spicer heavty duty joints with zert fittings in the end caps as you will not probably want to repeat this job in the near furture. The driveline u-joints are covered by the exhaust and the grease plugs in the end caps make it a lot easier to lube. Have a few beers and it makes the job go down easier. :yesnod:
Got all six from NAPA for around $150-yes expensive, but they are Spicer's, they don't have the grease fittings on the "cross" part, but they are greased thru the cap.
They've held up for hundreds of hard launches so far.
http://www.tomsdifferentials.com is where I bought mine from. Spicer cold forged units with no zerk fittings. I believe all 6 were under $100 I would have look to be sure.
