Default Keyless entry remote question.....

Guys,

Picked up a Vette last week. I found a keyless remote in the console. It didn't work, so I assumed it had a dead battery. Bought a battery for it and now I'm told it has to be programmed. What is the procedure for doing this? Thanks.

I think I have the procedure, I am reading it out of the service manual;

Always make sure the radio is turned "OFF" while programming the PKE system.

1) ignition key in the run position

2) trip ODO button is pushed and released

3) trip ODO is pushed again and held for 5 seconds

4) within 5 seconds push and hold the fuel info button for 10 seconds
>the passive keyless entry telltale lamp will come on continuously

5) ignition to the "LOCK" position.
>the passive keyless entry telltale lamp will now begin flashing

This is where I am not sure, but I think you shake the key fob and this should set the code for this transmitter. Remove the key from the ignition to end programming. Hope this helps.
This is the procedure for a '94, should be the same for a '95.

I just replaced my passive key chain. Here are the directions straight from the box.
1 Place the transmitter and any optional transitters 10 ft or more away from the car.
2 Turn the ignition key to the ON position
3 poush the TRIP/ODO button twice
4WITH IN 5 SECONDS push the FUEL/INFO button until the PKE light on the driver information center stays on.
5Turn the ingition OFF, but leave the key in the ignition... The PKE light will begin to flash.
6 Ready to program! Bring the first Transmitter into range. Once the system has programed the Flashing will pause. Repeat step 6 for each transmitter.
7 Remove the key and your done.

Good luck

Very easy I did it myself, just follow these directions and it works. BTW you're lucky to have gotten one, I didn't and had to pay $90 to get one

Ok,....I tried both procedures listed and I can't get the PKE light to come on.

I pressed the Trip/ODO twice, then within 5 seconds pressed the Fuel Info button and held for at least 10 seconds with the key on. Nothing.

I tried the other method listed. Pressed the Trip/ODO, pressed it again holding for 5 secs.....then within 5 secs press and hold the Fuel Info button for at least 10secs,.....still nothing.

What am I missing???

Hipsi, I have been through exactly this situation and it took me 2 weeks to find out it was something so obvious I couldnt belive it. The instructions Rich posted are indeed the correct ones and are the ones I used a few days ago when I got it to work. After pressing hte Trip/Odo button twice you will need to hold the Fuel/Info button for around a minute or so. I would do this and my light would never come on. Guess why? MY LIGHT WAS BURNED OUT!!!!
:mad

Go figure it was something that easy, and here I was looking at wiring diagrams and everything. Just do as the instructions say, hold the fuel info button for around a minute and even if the light doesnt come on try and continue as the instructions imply. worked for me

I can vouch for the procedure that Rich posted. I just did this yesterday in my '96. Of course, that doesn't mean that the '94 is the same.
