Default Energy Suspension Ball Joint Covers

I've replaced all of my bushings with the ES kit and I'm putting my front end back together this morning. I ended up purchasing the set of NOS front control arms from corvette recycling which have brand new factory ball joints ready to go.

I'm taking a look at the factory ball joints with the stock covers and it just doesn't seem like the ES covers are meant to go over them. I assume that since you almost always tear the old covers when you separate the arms from the knuckles, the ES ones are meant to go over the bare ball joint? Can anyone confirm and please advise? Here are some pics....

Thanks everyone - Mike

New ball joints:

Joints with ES covers on top?????? Doesn't look right to me.

Those could be the dust covers for the tie rods.

Summit racing catalog shows the following.

Energy Suspension Tie Rod dust cover, Black color is 9-13101G
Ball joint dust cover, Black color is 9-13127G

Thanks for the reply. The tie rod covers are shaped a little different and they're on the new tie rods already. Funny thing is, I ordered moog tie rods which didn't ship with covers on them and the ES covers fit perfectly which is why I think the ball joint covers are meant to go over bare ball joints.

I'll give a ring to ES tomorrow to see what they say. thx!

The Moog tie rods should have come with the dust boots.
Here's pictures of Moog tie rods from Advance Auto parts.

Looks like the company that filled your order messed up.

Maybe save them in case the existing ball joint boots get damaged. I'm not even sure you can install them without removing the ball joints from the A-arms...

Default Dust covers

I have 4 of these same type sitting in the garage. I never could figure out what they were for. Put them in a plastic bag with a big "question mark" on them.

They are designed to replace the original rubber ball joint boots and are meant to go over the bare joint. If you look at Blackharleyman's suspension rebuild post in the tech stickys you'll see them used on his new ball joints.

Since you have new balljoints with boots on them already you won't need them. Throw them in the parts bin for later, you'll beed them if you burn or tear a boot later.
