Default Alternator, dash, or short?

I've been having problems with my digidash lately. Battery is 2 months old, 88 coupe, etc. This problem just started recently. My dash looks bright during the day, as if it was lighting up properly, but then gets dim at night. Tonight, I noticed it got a lot brighter when I turned off my headlights. Voltage was around 13.6 at that time.

Could the problem be my alternator, since I have fairly low voltage coming off the battery at any given time?

The dash itself? Or maybe that photodiode thing I just heard about 5 minutes ago (square thing)

Or an electrical short, maybe caused by the aftermarket stereo?

Trying to figure this stuff out before I throw money at it.

This is normal cluster behavior you do not have an issue.

So I see, So I see. My bad.

UPDATE. Dash is so damn dim I can barely see it. I shone a light into the fancy square hole thing, and it magically lit up. Anyone? Hints, tips. A shotgun for my face?

The pull **** for the headlights doubles as a brightness/dim control for the cluster by turning it clockwise or counter clockwise. Is it working?

Holy $*^#, I'm going to try that. You learn something new every day.

Edit: Yeah, I'm retarded. So, there's nothing wrong with my car and you've just saved me money. I love you.

Nice!

One more thing about the dimmer though.

If you turn the headlight **** all the way to one side, it will lock in a detent position that you can feel. This will turn on the interior lights and keep them on. Don't mistakenly leave it in this position then walk away from the car or you'll have a drained battery in the morning. In this position the interior lights won't go out after 30 seconds like they normally do after you shut the doors. When you're messing around with the dim adjustment, just make sure you don't leave it in this position. This position is used when you want to illuminate the interior without using the key or opening the doors.
