So my '93 C4 hood rattles a little. I get out the FSM and it says that the distance from the bottom of the latch bolt head to the surface of the latch bracket should be two inches. It is not. It is 2 1/4 inches.
Ah Ha!
So I carefully set the distance to 2 inches.
Now the left side of the hood won't latch, and right side won't unlatch.
I hate the FSM.
Is it time for me to buy that hood latch removal tool?
All of the pictures I see of the tool show the tool releasing the left side. Does it work on the right side also?
Have someone push down on the right side on top of the latch, then pull the latch handle and see if it will un-latch. It's probably too tight to un-latch with the pressure on it from the way it's adjusted.
I would think that procedure might work for when the car was new. But after 15 years or so clearances change and the rubbers compress. Get it back to where it was then adjust it so it's a bit tighter or does not rattle. Do it in small adjustments to get it to the point where you want it.
