Default Is 225 normal for coolest temperature ?

On the highway the temperature is around 205 BUT In traffic I seen it goes up around 215 . Today it was warm not too Hot and it was hitting 225 at a stop . When I get going it goes down to 215 around . I looked at all of the for coolest level and they look good .So I sat in my drive way and watch it the temperature hit 230 Then the E-Fans kick on . When the temperature got to 217 the fans turned off . I feel that is too hot ., when I get a tune I change when E-fans turn on .

Your temps are normal. You can change the thermostat to a 160* and if you sit in traffic on a 80* day you will see the same temps. You also can change the temp that the fans come on, then you are messing with everything else the computer is trying to do. The high temps (your opinion) help with emissions and overall performance.

Your temps are fine for a 15 year old car. The ECM controls the operation of the fans based on coolant temp and the secondary fan should start at around 238 degrees. Turning on the A/C will also start the secondary fan.

What you should do is to inspect the front of the A/C condenser and the radiator for any sort of debris that may be blocking the flow of air thru these components.

C4's are "bottom breathers" in the sense that all of the cooling air is drawn up from under that car just behind the front license plate. Very easy to get stuff caught up in there and cut air flow.

You can use a garden hose and nozzle to clean out the debris by aiming the stream of water from the fan side. You should remove large pieces from the front by hand first. You will be surprised how much garbage will collect there.

If the radiator is original, it could be that the coolant tubes have worn thin from years of coolant passing thru under pressure. Thinner metal will not allow the same level of heat transfer to take place as when the radiator was new. Also inspect the fins to make sure they have not been bent over which effectively shuts off the flow of air. You can get a fin "rake" at just about any parts store. Just gently pass the rake over the fins to straighten them out.

So far all good advice.

If you add a switch to turn on the secondary fan (passenger side fan) you will be able to control the temperature at will. If you get stuck in traffic you can run the fan to keep the temp from climbing.

I had the same outlook you did. I did not like the high temps either regardless if it was normal. A toggle switch, 6 feet of wire and a simple connection to the relay.

If you run you’re A/C, it will run the primary fan continuously and help keep the temperature from climbing to fast.

take a look at oil temps once in awhile to be sure it stays 20* under the water temp. if you have constant high water temps you will want to change your oil more frequently

My car stays around 201-205 unless I sit for longer then a few minutes thaen I turn my fans on to keep it down.Yes its normal but the lower you keep the temp the better everything else is under the hood, electronics, hoses, belts, seals ,ect.JMO

When I got it I had a lot of grass in the rad,I used an air to blow it out.

I have owned 2 LT engines from new (Lt-1 and LT-4) both ran the temp you describe. Stay with synthetic oil and all is good. Cold engines wear out sooner.

Even a brand new C6 Corvette will run in the 220 range sitting in heavy traffic.

I put one in my 92 but don't use it much.

Garbage blocking he radiator, yea, you usually find a bit. And between the radiator and condenser (you have to look thru the hole in the shroud where the condenser lines go thru).

The other important thing, when was the last maintainence? Was a flush done properly including pulling the knock sensors?

FYI, my 92 will run all day at 194 on the highway, 196 pulling a long hill on a 100 degree day.
It will hit 205 easily at the first redlight.

Cold engines wear out,I think if you run it around 160 but not if it's running 195 or higher

Just a cautious word. I don't know what target temperatures you have in mind for one or both fans. But if you program them to low they will never shut down or cycle especially when it gets hot outside. At that point might not have any control over the fans.

As it stands now you can control your primary fan with your A/C. You can also add the switch for the secondary fan and have complete manual control as well as the factory settings.

Mine would run 215 constantly. I lost a belt and over heated and had to replace the head gasket.
I found one of the hoses had come apart inside and was blocking the water flow. Now it runs 190 in traffic.
My car is not stock and running a carb so I like it running lower temps. My fan is also always running until I can get the fan switch fixed.
