I just recently purchased my 95 LT-1 conv. and im not sure of what services have been done.I bought it with 66,000 miles on it and would like to know what i should have done to it.I have had the oil changed (with MOBILE 1),but not sure about coolant, trans. service etc.The car is in mint cond. for 66,000 miles, and have been owned by two adult owners before me,but they kept no records in the car.I want to make sure i take care of the car the proper way, because i plan to keep it for awile, maybe trade for a C5 conv. later.Do i ever need to change the timing chain?
Congrats on your purchase. Good insurance would be to change serpentine belt, trans and filter, fuel filter. Stick with the name brand parts. Check your brakes all the way around too. Good luck!!!!!!!!! :seeya :seeya
I would go ahead an have all the fluids changed or flushed, including coolant flush, tranny flush, and differential. Maybe a tune up (plugs, wires, etc.) too if you feel it's necessary. You can never tell what kind of shape that stuff is in and the only way to know for certain is to do it yourself. Congratulations on your new purchase!!
Check owner manual, should have a maintenance schedule. I'd at least do a coolant flush and fill, fuel filter change, spark plugs. I found that the stock AC Delco 41-906 spark plugs worked better in mine than the NGK TR55's some guys have luck with. Use only the o.e. type AC Delco fuel filter. If you're not mechanically adventurous, might want to pay experienced Corvette mechanic to do the plugs and fuel filter. I wouldn't let any old mechanic turn wrenches on your 'Vette-- make sure they have some experience with C4 'Vette's.
Also, report on which brand oil filter was put on during the oil change. Ya don't want a FRAM of any flavor- they're junk, nor a generic filter either. AC Delco Gold, K&N Premium Gold, Mobil 1 (they brand a filter also) seem to be among the preferred ones. I went with a K&N oil filter.
I'd have a look at the air cond condenser coil and coolant radiator and clean them if dirty/clogged. Be careful and don't spray water around the front of the engine block or else you might mess up the opti-spark electronic ignition component.
