Default Qustion for Scorp.

I just looked at the tech tip you put on the web for removal of the u-joints. I'm doing them now, and the u-joints in the half-shafts don't want to come out. How hard was it to get the u-joints out? I put them in a vice, pressed them out pretty hard, but didn't want to over press them. Didn't want anything to crack. I had no problem pressing out the drive-shaft u-joints, but the half shafts are a different story.

Some are easy, some are hard. :( Are you using the socket method? You may want to check the larger socket and make sure that it is correctly positioned. If it isn't, the u-joint may be trying to press out and pressing directly into the wall of the socket therefore going nowhere fast.

I think I used a 1 1/8" socket. I am not entirely positive.

yeah I tried the socket method but those things are in there tight. The larger socket I used cleared the u-joint. I even managed to bend the handle on the vice. :) Then I just got fed up with it and used a BIG hammer. I think the u-joints got scared of the hammer, 'cause they finally came out.

LOL, as long as it worked and you didn't strike the u-joint loop.

I made sure that I wouldn't hit it. I know those half shafts are soft. Seems like you could almost cut those with a knife.

2 of mine were very tough to press out, tow weren't. The two that were hard tho....I had to really lean on the vise handle, and when they went it was with a pretty good "crack". Good luck.
