LT1 396 Piston / Rod Decision

do you know for sure the counterweights on your crank will clear pistons on the shorter rods? my 3.875" crank's counterweights were large and made specifically for 6" rods, so that it could zero balance without heavy metal and no countweighting on the flywheel/balancer.

I agree with 'rklessdriver'. If you haven't had your block squared on the decks-this makes sense on a high output/expensive engine. I believe you are being very conservative on your static compression-ie leaving hp on the table especially with the same cam I'm running with 11.9 to 1.

Y'all convinced me to have the deck measured and milled to get the 0.035-0.040 "squish".
First, I'll need to have the deck measured. All of my calculations were made using a standard unmeasures 9.025" which calculates to a 0.0245 "squish" WITHOUT gasket. Adding .026" gasket the "squish increases to 0.0505.
Once I have the deck measured I'll let my machine shop know that my target "squish" is 0.35-.040 and to mill it to meet that spec.

I'm running the pro mod 6 inch rods with JE inverted dome pistons, Callies crank, 1/6 rockers, and the 847 cam. It seems Lunati only makes the 5.7s now. I think no matter wich setup you go with, the next item on your wish list (my list as well) should be the AFR 195s. With professionaly ported LT1 heads I'm only putting down around 360 at the wheels (the 3500 stall also hurts the hp numbers).

Heads may be in the future but not right now. I'll see how much HP/TQ and ET I can get with the CNC'ed LT1 heads I have. As I mentioned I've already achieved 381HP with some known limitations so I should be able to achieve low 400+ HP once I'm done with this build.
