Default Exact fit plug wire set--L98

Anyone know who has the best "exact fit" plug wire set for the L98? Usually the ready made sets from most brands are a general fit, with some wires being too long or too short. On my last set, I made my own, but thats a bit of a PITA especialy if you don`t crimp the wires just right.

AC Delco, here too. The number has changed, but the fit is still good.

Summit had a TPI set, 8mm, it's been a few years. They were about 45 bucks.

I bought a new set of ac delco 9 years ago, and they still look perfect except for a couple tiny spots that came in contact with my headers. They fit perfect too. Highly recommended.

A/C Delco is best but they need to be routed EXACTLY right and the correct retainers used. Its a PIA but do it right, they are right. A factory manual helps

I always buy the "crimp yourself" so I can route em exactly as I want. Your right about the crimping being a pain. I always used needle nosed and regular pliers with good results after a few choice words on occasion. I just bought a new set for my L98 and this time I bought the spark plug wire crimping tool. I hope this will cut down on the choice words. I am waiting til I get the right stand off brackets to keep em routed right and in place. I will post up results on the crimper. Hopefully it wasnt a waste of money. Only $7 but I hate throwing money away.

I purchased the Taylor 8mm wire set for my 94 LT1. It was a perfect fit.

Checker has been sold to O'Reileys, and they no longer carry some of the old crap. I bought new custom fit wires, and they worked really good. They were $38. Only problem was they were 7mm instead of 8, but they seem to work ok. The extra material is insulation, and if they don't rub, it doesn't matter. oh, and they were lifetime.......

The universal set I bought was a no name brand made in the USA 8.5mm red set. I bought them and the crimper off eBay from the same seller, a speed shop in TN.

You really cant go wrong with Taylors, I have bought a couple of sets and have been satisfied with them. I decided to cheap out this time and save $20 and I bought a set of heat socks to avoid burning them on the now deleted headers.

Coupeguy is right about the insulation, thats usually the difference in the sizing. I guess if you upgrade your spark system, you would think alot about the extra insulation to prevent cross fire and/or grounding out the increased voltage.

I just hate having extra wire loose anywhere. The custom sets are close but generally arent close enough in my book. Maybe a set custom to a Vette but Chevy V8 is too general a term for me. A lot of folks offer them but it always seems to be one or two that are too long and one that just barely makes it. Running one wire over 3 wires on top of the distributor makes me wonder about cross fires. I will be posting up "Ive got this Strange Misfire"

I'm still looking for correct retainers before I install mine.
The AC/Delco set number is 618W and the box also references GM#19172236
(Hope these are the right ones-i got them from MidAmerica and have had some issues with the last two orders)

You can buy a 25 foot roll of MSD 8MM spark wire for about $50. The ends and boots are available at any decent parts store (I got mine at CarQuest). I had an old MSD crimper laying around from when I built some wires a few years ago, but the crimpers are easy to come by.

That's they way to do it, IMO.

The PO put in a Taylor Spiro Pro universal set. I had wondered why they fit almost perfect.

The only thing with the universal set, is they all come with 90* plugs. And for #6 you need a 135* plug. But with a 90*, the plug is pressing on the oil filler tube. I'm guessing that wouldn't be a problem since I had been running like that for years on the PO wire job.
I have seen Taylor single wires from Summit I think on eBay. May have been another seller. Here are 135* in universals

Someone posted a link in a thread I can't find of a company whom sells fitted plug wires for my 86. I wish someone would post it again, I need some red colored wires and I refuse to make my own.
