Loose outside mirror
The outside driver side mirror on my '95 is "loose." When you shut the door it gets out of position. The inside controls will pull it back into place, but it shakes while you're driving and has to be readjusted. I bought a whole replacement unit (used).
I think I could probably handle replacing the "broken" unit. However, the replacement unit is a different color. Is there any way to "tighten" the existing mirror? And, if not, is it possible to just replace the mirror and mechanism within the existing housing?
Thanks
Thanks so much.
After the coldest wettest winter I can remember in my 62 years, we're finally getting some decent weather. I took the 8 year old grandson to baseball practice yesterday with the top removed. We had a ball! It made me remember why I bought the car in the first place.
It was a good thing that I had purchased a replacement. When I got the mirror apart, I found that the little "pot metal" bracket that holds the motor to the housing was broken. I replaced it, snapped everthing back together, and it now works like new.
Thanks again. You guys are invaluable.
FYI. I am now starting on my retirement project - a semi basket case '58 that's been sitting in my garage for 20+ years. I can't afford a 100 point restoration, but I can at least build a nice driver that I can enjoy for a few years before I get so old they take my license away. Then maybe one of my grandsons will appreciate it enough to be the one I will it to.

BTW, I think you will find that, as you adjust into retirement, you will have several decades of driving pleasure from that '58...good luck and enjoy...
