Default No muffler

Took the muffler off while changing the brakes and it sounds mighty nice.

I live in FL so this is probably illegal, but I wanna know what I should do from here. I Can't afford a new catback system, but I can buy muffler eliminators.

Will it affect the engine without it on for a week or so? Gotta impress the guys and especially the girls at school

I wouldnt run it with the exhaust off because it might melt some wires and whatever else is at the end of the cats...

He said he took the muffler off, not the exhaust pipe.

As far as being illegal. The only law that this would break, assuming you did not disturb the cats, is excessive noise regulations.

But, if it gets you laid, who cares.

Well yes, I did take off the whole structure right from the cat. where the "Y" occurs, we just unbolted the whole thing. That would mean the end of the pipe is in the middle of under the car.

So it needs to go back on? I was worried about excessive heat.

I just have open headers for the moment - want to talk about loud. Its way too loud in my opinion but the kids sure thought it was cool.

Oh, I didnt understand. I thought he meant the whole exhaust because the mufflers dont come off the Vette (unless you saw them off)... but

I'm trying to figure out why you need to take off your mufflers to work on your brakes.

Because when you're bored and you've already got the car jacked up, why not?

I wouldn't leave it off, its really loud. My dad's van (1993 G20 350TBI) had the exhaust fall off before the Cat so it was "open manifolds" and got pulled over 3 times in 2 weeks.

On my 87, the muffs are a slip fit.

Is that stock? The LT1s have completely welded exhaust up to the cats...

You are looking at a very dangerous situation. You will get exhaust fumes in the cabin and possibly kill someone.

Aside from all the great previous suggestions, you’re in FL where it is hot now. You got all that heat being released right under you which might make it hoter in the car.

And don’t forget, this is a FIBERGLASS car, can't be good for it aside from all the black exhaust that might accumulate on the bottom of the car.

On my bracket car, my headers run through a ypipe with a turndown at the end. Infineon raceway has a 115 db limit for evening races and it is below that threshold. Sounds mean without being deafening.

I'm going to sell my black beauty soon. It simply won't be practical to have while I'm at UF, I plan on driving 3 or so hours twice a month and that's something this car won't do well.

So I'll sell this, even though I wish I could keep it so much. But the 157k miles says otherwise...

All the more reason to drive it and save up for an engine swap when it's all over with.
