Default L98 Dipstick solutions with headers

Like to hear what you guys did....

I found an Ebay stick that didn't quite line up with the block cinching location. Plus, the plating made it oversized for the block hole (by at least 5 thousanths).

I probably should have kept it and made it work. The stock stick needs a stand-off and I'm not crazy about that idea either.

What'd you do for your L98 with headers?

Grind off the old mounting bracket on the stock dipstick and weld/fab a new one to land in another location other than the header flange bolt. I don't know if your AFR heads have the extra threaded holes just above head h20 temp sensor like the stock 113's have....but you get the idea.

Think with your dipstick!

Uhhh,,,,I don't remember that sensor -- just to the left of your green arrow.

I installed the aux fan temp sensor on the opposite side but a plug on the side you're showing. What did I forget? What is that? (It looks the the oil sensor screwed into the oil filter housing.)

I didn't weld it, just rolled some steel to wrap around tube and bolted elsewhere.

Sensor body style may vary slightly by manufacturer there was nothing wrong with this old one so I hit both sides with a brass bristle brush and reinstalled it on the new build. This sensor feeds the cluster's H20 temp gauge....a single wire should be grouped in close the with starter leads.....ecm gets its coolant signal from the guage on the front of the intake. The aux fan sensor (if equipped) goes where you said caty corner between 1 & 3 as you suggest.

I used an E-Bay cheapo & heated it to get it to fit. It's pretty darn snug. My dipstick is on the driver's side, but I don't know if there were any differences in the size of the opening between the old & newer blocks.

It's chrome too..........purdy!

Sounds like me, I drilled a hole in a bit of steel and pushed the tube through.
