This may seem like a stupid question, but here it goes:
86 L98 with possibly a 88 L98 engine.
The front drivers side bolt on the intake manifold broke off. I have tried everything to get it out. At this point I have a broken easy out stuck in the bolt and it is below the level of the gasket surface. The easy out is made of tool steel so drilling it out is not happening for me (I've tried).
Will the water passage be secure with this bolt missing?
I am at a loss at this point. Please - any suggestions?
Try using a small punch and a hammer to break the broken ez-out into little chips to remove it. Also a carbide drill bit is a possibility. Use it carefully-they break easy.
Once you get it out, spray the broken bolt with some penetrating oil and let it sit for a while and try another ez-out...
It may leak after a few heat cycles. You might have to remove the intake to get that bolt out. Rent a mig welder if you have to, build up weld on the top of the broken bolt, then weld a nut to that. The welding heat helps to loosen any rust that might be binding the bolt. Make sure you pratice w/ the mig if you haven't used it before, get the right heat & wire speed settings. This trick has saved my bacon more than once.
