I personally would put your CDs on a MP3 player. Then use this and plug it in your tape deck! They are cheap (under $10).
I have a CD player and tape deck and I dont even use the CD player
This is what I do, too. But if the OP really wants to play CDs, he could use the same adapter connected to a Discman-type of portable CD player, instead of an Ipod.
When I bought my 86, it had a 10 disc changer tied into the factory head unit, using FM modulation via the coax cable. Worked well, but I eventually yanked it all out to put in some high end gear.
I've purchased 2 of these MP3/CD cassette adapters (different Mfg's) and neither works in my 87, although both work in my portable cassette player.
After inserting in car cassette player, the player switches from forward to reverse to foward...then immediately pops out. Sometimes I will hear the MP3 play...but that lasts for no more than 2 seconds...then pops out.
I would appreciate your opinions.
Thanks,
JT
PS...regular cassette tapes play ok in the car player.

Have you ever tried to put a real cassette tape in and see if it works?

A lot of players have a sensor that detects drag on the capstan and/or take-up spindle. If the adapter presents too much drag on the take-up spindles, the deck will be fooled into thinking that the "tape" has reached its end, and it will auto-reverse. If it tries that, and still sees a lot of drag, it'll presume there's something wrong with the "tape", and will puke it back at you.
If you don't mind experimenting, remove the gears that connect the wheels in the adapter, and see if that makes it work. Might work, might not.

Thanks for the info...won't be able to look into this until next week and will update after.
1. FM modulator: works ok, sound quality is just ok, but on my vette the FM reception is generally poor for some reason and the modulator didnt work that well for me. The FCC requires that the signal be very weak, and was never strong enough to get good reception with.
2. They make a little adapter that splices in between the antenna on the radio and the antenna out. It has to RCA inputs for whatever you want and a little switch that you can turn it on and off with, and tune to some preset frequencies. works very well and it can be hidden behind the radio.
