I have found some cags on ebay for like 10 bucks and i want to order one but i have a few Q's first. They say they are for 93 and later is that just cause the seller doesnt know that they will work in the ZF6 or are the conectors different plus should I trust a cags that is only 10 bucks
Thanks
My first question is "Why do you WANT the CAGS?" This is the solenoid that forces you to skip from 1-4 under "certain" conditions. It really stinks...always comes on at the wrong time. Bill Boudreau (ZR51 Performance) says that they actually can cause premature failure of the synchros. I tend to agree with him on that one.
If you are talking about the Skip-shift eliminator, then that is a little different. There are two different kinds of plugs to eliminate the CAGS. The early plugs are just that...a plug to keep the dirt out of the connectors. The later plugs had to add a resistor into them to keep from flagging a code and a light on the dash. I think the feds had something to do with that one, as just about everyone I know that got a ZF car new disconnected the CAGS in the first week of ownership (and my Chevy dealer actually disconnected mine for me before I picked up the car).
Brand new, the plugs run about $25 from any of the vendors that sell Corvette parts.
I paid like $12 for mine new. I bought it in the mall. I have since had my computer programmed using LT1 Edit and I changed the CAGS data set so that CAGS never engages. I gave the plug thingy to a friend.
so instead of buying anything I can unplug it and not worry about it?? Thank you i just got my corvette and i am loving every minute of it although taking me 6 hours to put 5 plugs (couldnt get the last 3 on drivers side) and some valve cover gaskets really suck but im working on it. I sold my 91 z28 to get it, its a 92 6spd with 101K miles a greenwood wing and now it has muffler eleminators and K&N with custom open box. Thanks for the help!!
I bought a connector for my '93 because I didn't know any better at the time.
For my '94Z28 I used a 2.2KOhm Resistor. i stuck it in the connector end and taped it up. I had to use a resistor on the '94 because it would set a computer trouble code when it senses an open circuit. The resistance of the CAGS solenoid is about 2.2kOhms (for this particular car), the computer doesn't know its not connected. Package of 6 resistors from radio shack, $0.50.
