There is a lesson to be learned here. I learned the hard way to never give up the core until I am happy with the new part.

Sorry, someone was bound to say it.

Do you need a measurement of the shaft length? I've got the pulley off mine as I'm in the middle of a pressure hose replacement on my 89.

And you can rent for free the PS pulley puller and installer from the auto parts store.

Dude...just post it. Who knows when/where another reader might find this post -- especially if there's an "issue"!!!

Ah...ha!.... after a few beers I got it figured out what was going on!!
Not a pump problem..

Didn't notice it before but i got looking at the other pulley on the other car. I noticed something a bit different. The center of that pulley was pushed outward not inward like mine was!... Even though it look perfect, at closer inspection I noticed some cracking of the paint on the pulley.

That got me to thinkin....did i use the right puller when removing it? I assumed just put a puller on it right? NOT... I should have used a puller that goes around that ridge next to the shaft. Instead I used a three tong type puller that went around the diameter of the pulley... thus pulling the outside edges outward and leaving the center in place long enough for me to bend it out that quarter inch. Even though you could never tell that it happened... it did. From the pics I posted the pulley looks fine.. but its not. I'll get some good pics in the am and post to show you exactly what I mean.

Thanks for all your replies and help.... and LESSON LEARNED!
Make sure to always use the correct puller!...

I really didn't see the point in going and taking measurements for the hell of it just to post it for no reason.

They rent those pullers/installers for free at the auto parts store. I always use the correct tool when possible.

It's called going out of your way for each other. You know...like I did for you recently.

Yeah,,,the correct pulley grabs the center hub -- NOT the entire pulley.

No one asked for the measurement. So, I don't see why you feel I am obligated to go take a measurement for no reason when no one needs it.

I just don't see the point in taking measurements and posting them just to post them incase someone might need that specific measurement at some point if at all. I guess I might as well go measure the entire car, every bolt, etc. and post them incase someone might need them.

But again, no one has asked for that measurement anyways, I just offered to if the OP could have used it. For all anyone knows, a different measurement could have been needed instead and it would have been wasted time.

You have had the same opportunity to go measure the shaft length and post that figure since you feel it needs to be posted, but you didn't and instead say I should go do it. But again, no one has asked for that measurement anyways, I just offered to if the OP could have used it. I didn't have a puller anymore. But I tried to guess with the pulley still mounted. I TRIED to help!!!

And you wasted my time on the A/C bracket thing. It didn't bother you enough to REALLY change it -- so why ask others to post pics for you?

Guess wasting time is something you like to reserve for others. Maybe you don't see it now, but some day you'll figure it out.

BTW: My apologies to the O.P. -- but I assume this thread is over.

It seems like you like creating your own problems as I offered to help the OP out, but for some reason you decided to respond to make a problem out of nothing.

On the AC bracking thing. It was said 89 came with 3 AC brackets. Mine only had one and figured the previous owner left them off, so I was gonna install them. But it turned out my car didn't come with those brackets like it was saying it did.

So, I posted pics showing there are 89 C4's out there without those brackets. After I figured out mine didn't come from the factory with those brackets, I decided there is no reason to put brackets on when there isn't supposed to be any on mine.

One of those brackets can't be installed anyways. The other one I'd have to pull the bracket and replace a stud. No point in doing that when it didn't come from the factory with those brackets anyways. I was just assuming mine was missing those brackets since I was told mine was supposed to have them.

I spent time figuring out some 89's didn't come with those brackets from the factory when you and others were saying it did.
