Default 91 Automatic LATE shifting (T.V Cable?)

I have a 1991 vert L98 automatic transmission.

Starting saturday in the morning it wouldn't shift at it's normal shift point, it shifted rather late. After making a stop and turning the engine off I began driving again and it shifted normally. Later that night after the car sat for about 7 hours and when I went to drive it, it wouldn't shift out of 1st until about 30 mph, it shifted out of second around 50 and it didn't get out of third even at roughly 63 mph.

It hasn't shifted normally all day today (sunday), but I think it's gotten into overdrive today (tricky to tell at <45).

Also, when it shifts it SLAMS into gear, and when I put it in drive, it SLAMS into gear when I'm sitting still.

I looked through my service manual and it suggests that the Throttle Valve cable needs to be adjusted. I was wondering if anyone has run into this, and does this sound like the correct syptoms? I'm planning on replacing my vaccum lines and changing my oil tomorrow, and I thought I'd take a look at it and I was hoping for some insight as to how difficult it is to adjust this cable/ re-attach this cable if it's become disconnected.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mine did that when the transmission was "cold"...once up to temp it would be fine the rest of the day. Drove it with these morning symptoms for about 1 year with no real problems. Finally blew the tranny. Upon dissassembly it turned out to be a bunch of "crap" stuck in one of the valve bodies.
Hope yours turns out to be an easy fix.

That's some really encouraging stuff to look forward to...

I looked at the guide and I located the T.V. cable under the hood and while making sure I found it I played with it a bit and now the car shifts fine every time, if not better than before. I guess it might've gotten stuck or something...

With the "valve bodies full of crap" information, perhaps I'll be proactive and go ahead and change the fluid/clean the screen since it has been worked on/ opened up within the last 6 months to fix the speedometer.
(That was at an automatic tranny shop that is highly recommended and have never had problems in the past, however)

Nathan,if all they did was work on the speedo, then they didn't get into the main part of the tranny. I would check with them about doing a flush and filter and see what they recommend. How about cruising over to Morehead and sending me something from the Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant. Really miss the fresh seafood.

According to me parents it has "gone down a bit over the years"
I'd rather just catch a fresh spanish or a blue off the pier though...
