Can any one tell me why after replacing the elect. fuel pump I have fuel pressure that pegs a 80 psi gage?
However the motor dose start now and seems to run just fine. But it is the fuel pump that I am worried about and am wondering if that is the cause of the original one failing.
Thanks to all, I will double check the gage but I don`t think thats it as the gage is a high quality ss liquid filled test gage, when I first started to test with the original pump the gage read 10psi consistently.
Can you tell me if there are any other pressure controls in this fuel sys.?
Thanks again

There can also be a clog in your return line which could cause high fuel pressure even if the FPR is working properly... Is your fuel pump original?.
Hi Thanks for getting back to me.
I believe that the one that failed (would only put out 10 psi) was the original one. I now know that it is not the gage as I put the press. regulator back togeather last night and at the risk of the new pump I ran it for a while and the press. went to 80 psi + and after about 20 seconds, in one abrupt move it dropped to aprox. 42 psi and I could hear the regulator dump the press. but then it climbed back to the 80 range. I blue air thru the returne line the first day and it is clear. When the regulator dumped the press. Some fuel did come out of the returne line.
The local automotive store has a kit for the regulator, I think I will buy that next. The original regulator looks good inside no leaking out the vent or tears in the diaphrame.
Thanks again.
I had this same problem on my 87 vette after putting in a new sending unit, I blew the line return line out with air and heard it bubbling in the tank, I rebuilt my FPR and swapped out to a different fuel rail gauge, which no of the above corrected the problem. I finally talked to Jim @ TPIS and he told me to check the return line at the fuel tank, sure enough the line had got kinked enough to restrict the fuel flow returning to the tank to cause a high pressure. A quick tug and pull and a zip tie to keep things in placed corrected the problem. Hope this helps
My fuel pressure was reading 80PSI. This thread led me to put the return line into a fuel can near the rail and power up the fuel pump (ignition on/not running). The pressure dropped to 47PSI. I looked closely at the return line and way back by the rear fender well the line was completely closed off (probably by a careless jack).
Thanks for the lead guys. This was a really frustrating one and I'm finally back in business.
