So, the C5 does seem to have a similar ride quality as the C4 with the similar Transverse leaf spring and Bilstein shocks, confirmed by mundos' experience with owning both generation Vette's.
You ever ride in a riced out hot hatch or something? They use coils, stiff shocks, and ride like total crap too. The type of spring is not the determining factor.
A spring is a spring. The transverse spring can have an anti-roll effect, but that's why they used smaller anti-roll bars.
I realize that the spring is not the determining factor but, it does play a major role.
The Fact is:
The C4 Vette's do have a tendency to hop or skip over big bumps and have a stiffer ride than other stock vehicles older or newer. To solve the Ride Quality issue, many Corvette Forum members have either installed a Softer Leaf Spring, Softer Shocks or have replaced the Transverse Leaf Spring design with Coil Overs with Adjustable shocks.
Many C4 Vette owners are weekend Cruisers not Racers and want the best of both worlds (comfort and handling) but, there is a compromise to each.
I have the stock replacement VBP leafs and AC/Delco shocks ,Great for the street or a tight auto X Could use more rate for the track . I dont get that side step over bad pavement . Horizontal ridges in the pavement still suck in a C4 no matter what shock combo you have
Here's a quote from "mundo" in a recent thread he started,
"The worst thing I ever did was put Bilstien shocks on my C5. The C5 had a decent ride but I knew the shocks were bad. So on went the Bilsteins. Now it rides like a pickup truck."

Now you're basing your conclusion on an internet posting. It's exptremely obviousl that you haven't ridden in a C5, to me. I OWNED a c6 for 3-1/2 years. I can tell you that it ride substantially better (even my "Z51") than the later C4. And I can tell you in what manner, it does so.

YES! Now tell us WHY the coil-overs an adjustable shocks helped. Using science...not your VW. Hint: It's not the TYPE of spring that makes the diff.
Shocks, are not a place to cheese out if you want good ride qualitiy in a c4..
My Bilstein equiped C4's ride quality is good enough that I do multistate road trips in it....at times I've driven 1000+ miles in a day with no drama and in great comfort.
