I wouldn't. Per my builder's observations (and mine since he mentioned it), carb cleaner leaves a residue. Brake cleaner is the better choice as a general engine parts cleaner.
That said, there's a relay that superheats the wire (aka burnoff relay). I don't see how a cleaner is going to improve on that.

I don’t believe the 96 uses a burn off relay or that system as the earlier vetts.

Although sounds like a plan, would not want or leave any fibers behind or even worse break one of the wires. It could turn out to be a costly mess when you just wanted to do a cleaning and make it better.

i did do the q-tip thing and it cleaned up nice, just a little care was needed to keep it from leaving fibers or breaking a wire.
Not a good idea. Those wires are something like 1/4 the diameter of a human hair and have been subject to a kazillion heat cycles. I don't think touching them would be a good idea. I am even afraid of the MAF cleaners, but I always err on the safe side.
I read that 1/4 thing somewhere, don't know is they are that small or not.
i just hate spraying caustic stuff if i don't have to. heck i even use a q-tip to clean off my armpit hairs one at a time instead of cancer causing deodorants.
ok i made that last line up - lol.
i suppose i'd break down and use the cleaner if the maf was off the car - i'm usually not a big fan of putting cleaners into the intake tract.
