Default Cooling issues ...Please Help!

After about a year of procrastination, I finally got everything back together after removing the intake manifold, it took about 4 days. lol, and after figuring out I had the distributor in 180 off it fired up fine.

I was observing the radiator cooling fan, since I had reason to believe something was wrong with it. Someone spliced the E terminal wire on fan motor relay and connected a wire from there to the positive terminal of the battery, I don't have a clue where the E terminal wire goes to from the fan motor relay. I'm pretty sure its the E because A goes straight to the fan motor, and its on the other end of the connector. I'm not sure if the cooling system has been altered or not. The manual says there is a ecm or something, but I have no D terminal coming from the fan motor relay to any ecm.

Where does the E terminal red wire (on the fan motor relay) go to? I jumped the main fan motor straight from the battery to the A terminal and the fan spun, but made a screeching noise and not long after started to smoke some. So, I disconnected it, it still spins but it makes noise and gets really hot. I have to get this figured out and I wonder why there isn't a ecm terminal from the fan motor relay connector.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or a verbal explanation of the wiring for the cooling fans? After tracing the wire I'm starting to believe the E terminal goes to the auxiliary fan, but I haven't pulled the shroud or cover off yet to check it out. I'm afraid to start the car or do anything else to it until I get this figured out and the fan working.

E is power from battery for fan motor. Sounds like the PO cooked the fusible link and added that wire to power fan. I would replace that fan motor and repair fusible link or put in an inline fuse.

Here is the correct wiring schematic and info for 1986.

Hey thanks guys, I'll get to work on that and get back if I have any problems. I did get a fan motor from autozone for $23.99. Online they're like $80-$90. Hopefully I'll get this figured out.

I figured it out. Other than the fan motor not working properly it turned out to be the fan relay also. Which threw me off for a while because adding current to E and grounding out B made the relay click as though it was working even though it wasnt. I tore it apart and found that the circuit board was burnt up. Tested it then with the aux fan relay and everything worked fine while I was testing it out. I tested the aux fan connection and relay using the same methods and grounded out the B terminal while it was hooked up to the relay, the aux fan started spinning. So hopefully I'm good to go.

Thanks a lot guys for the diagrams and info here.
