Default Overdrive pulleys where can I get them?

I was advised to get some overdrive pulleys for my alternator, water pump and crank. Supposedly to help slow the revolutions of these items and to especially save my alternator, as I run the car at the drags frequently. Opinions? what size where do I get them, etc.

Thanks,

Steve

I believe if you change your search to underdrive pulleys you will easily find what you are looking for.

OK. Underdrive pulleys. Now, what do they do? Are they expensive? Hard to install? do I need all of them? I suppose I will need a new serpentine belt as well.

Thanks for the advise.

Supposedly they free up power by making the accessories turn less. I had them on before and I can't say that made much of a difference. If I were racing for a huge prize purse, I would want every bit of possible power and maybe so. OTOH, for a DD, I haven't seen enough of an advantage.

Obviously, since you are changing the diameter of the accessories you will need a shorter belt. How much shorter, IDK. You have to get the stock size and drop it down a bit and buy several, try them and return the rest.

Google "March Power & Amp under drive pulleys". Get the 3 piece aluminum set. Yes you will need a new belt. I think they help. When you buy them they will say what belt you need.

An hour ago I picked up my March 2-pc set from the local speed shop. The only difference in the 2 and 3 pc March sets is that the 3-pc set is "pretty" because the pulleys are aluminum finished and a water pump pulley is included, but it's the same size as stock.

I got the 2-pc set because it's half the price and does the same thing - and also because it's black so it's less likely to be noticed by the smog guys or whatever. The less the smog guys here see, the better.

March claims 13 hp at the wheels for the pulley swap. To feel that, you'd have to have a pretty well-calibrated butt dyno, but it sure can't hurt to have them on there.

The 3 piece set I got has 2 aluminum pulleys and a steel alternator overdrive pulley to keep the alternator output up. They are all painted black. That set was 157.00 two years ago. The 2 and 3 piece sets are not the same. The stock # for my 1989 was 4425 IIRC.

Guess I should have said that I was repeating what the March guys told me when I called and asked about the differences.

don't know why you want your accessories to turn slower. They don't work all that good anyway.

All mine work just fine. I'd like to turn them slower to reduce parasitic drag on the engine, improve response, mileage and power.

I've had mine in a box for about 3 months now, haven't installed them yet because of fuel related problems, but there is no way they can hurt performance.

BTW that is not all the options, If you put in part # MCH-4425 you will get the aluminum P&A series from Summit for 1988-1991. I don't know the OP's year.

Do a web search on ASP underdrive pulleys. They underdrive the crank 22% and ALT. 15%. I was going to use them but found I had to switch to the newer one sided belt system[newer belt, tensioner, and power steering pulley].
