Default Comp Cam - selection help

Hi,
I have an 1985 350 L98. The L98 block is getting machined into a 383 and the heads are getting ported. I am not really sure on which cam to select. I want a nice lumpy sound, but not an overkill cam, hence my reason for this post. I did send a cam request to Comp Cam's website on their submit page yesterday, but no response to date. Any information here would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Darcy

I like their Thumpr cams, and they have many different versions of those.

I Understand the GM Hot Cam works well in this application.

Comp will respond. But don't pay much attention to their desk jockey's responses.

What intake will you be using? What headers? Cam is the last part of the build process and should be queried based on ALL of your parts.

I called their hotline, spoke to one of their tech guys and got a response. Called a few weeks later, just for laughs, gave a different guy the exact same specs and got a different recommendation. Now, because my curiosity was killing me, I called one more time and spoke to the first guy I talked to and got a completely different choice. I'll give them this...the three choices were in the same general "ball park", but if they had a real good system, when given the exact same specs on three seperate occasions...I should have gotten the same answer three times!!! Just my .02

I haven't bought a SBC cam in a while. I used to use their 280 magnum in all of my carb/iron head motors (C3's).

This block going to be flat tappet cammed or does it have provisions for rollers? I believe roller blocks are 87 up so that changes cams alittle. Can you do a retrofit roller? Abit more money but much better results and longer cam life.

Really need to know what compression, intake, gears, exhaust, etc. to give an accurate suggestion.
The comp xtreme energy line works well for most mild applications as long as you don't over cam it.
