My cars security light flashes and will not start. It continues flashing even when the car is off. The previous owner tried to diagnose this problem and failed. I found the vats box behind the bread box completely unplugged. I plugged it back in and the light started flashing. So I ordered a vats relay from mid america, plugged it in and still no start. The light just flashes. The car will crank and slightly fire up for a split second. Rail is getting fuel. Is there another procedure to plug this resistor in?
Mid america resistor reads 6.08 and my key reads 6.02
If it's cranking, it's 99.9% not a VATS problem. The VATS module disables starter and injectors.
The Security light is for the Forced Entry Alarm (Theft Deterent Controller) and does not affect cranking or injectors.
Here is some info on both, should help you diagnose the Security light problem. http://members.shaw.ca/dankai/Vats%20Electrical.pdf
Do you have a noid light to check for injector pulse ?
OK thanks for clearing that up. The car will sometimes start up for a split second. The rail is getting fuel but no I don't have the tool to see if the injectors are firing. One thing I did notice was the SES light never comes on. I pulled the DIC and switched the bulb with no change so the SES is not showing up at all. I'm thinking maybe the ECM is shot? I opened it up and there is a hypertech chip in it. It also says re manufactured. The guy who owned this car before tried diagnosing this thing and changed a bunch of stuff. There is a brown wire hanging out from the main wiring distribution that goes through the firewall on the drivers side. It is a very thin gauge brown wire and it is just hanging there with a cut end on it.
