new (to me) '86 with a starting problem
About a month ago, I purchased my first ever 'vette (and, interestingly enough, my first used car as well). Altogether, its been a great car, but in the last week or so I've been having some starting issues I was hoping somebody could help me with.
The car turns over fine, and then sort of starts (very low idle, around 400-500). It then promptly dies. This happens every time on a cold start (and quite a few hot starts as well) until it give it a bit of throttle when I turn the key. If I let go of the throttle before I get into gear, the car usually dies. However, as soon as I get into gear and start driving, the car has no problems.
My first thought was that the battery was running out of juice (and was running just off the alternator when i gave it some gas), but my multimeter shows 12.4v on the battery and the dash shows 12.3v, so I'm not so sure of that any more.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If not I'd suspect the fuel pump relay.
If you hear it I'd suspect the Cold Start Injector or the fuel pressure not holding. Check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gage screwed on to the fuel rail at the regulator.
