Electronic Cut-outs... ?
Where do I even look for these? I put a stock exhaust on my car and I'm thinking I'd like to put electronic cutouts on it so I can go from very quiet exhaust (pulling into the neighborhood and taking a nice girl out -- most of them complain about it).
Will the cutouts give a muffler eliminator like sound? How much for them? I'll plan on putting them right before the mufflers most likely.
And yes, I still have my flowmaster exhaust in the garage ... i might have someone make me an X-pipe to use on it. It's just entirely too loud for drive's home and going anywhere trying to have a conversation with anyone but yourself.

JC Whitney sells a cable activated system. I've been eyeing them for a while...I don't know how they would sound though, I bet it'd be just as good as open headers.
Do you have a link or any contacts to that person/company? Yeah, I bet it would sound like open headers too. Since they would dump before the rear of the car, i think they would be worse than my old exhaust when open... but at least I could control the amount they are open (i think.. right??) and I could close them up any time.
Oh, and that would give me a good way to hook up the "Full Power Mode" light in the display center.. cuz with the exhaust open vs stock, it sure as hell will have full power compared to with those mufflers lol!

No, my friend moved to Texas, from Arizona, and I think the catalog was in his truck.
Here's there link: http://www.jcwhitney.com/

Ok, I know in my catalog, there were 2 1/2 inch ones, but this is a start: http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jht...D=5199&BQ=jcw2
I've looked at this option myself, problem is you can't find 2.75 So you are stuck with 2.5 or 3. Basically it's a normal cutout that you put the electric unit on. I wanna say McCord (MAC CORD) sounds right, but I don't know of any links. There is a guy in the local car club who just installed one on his Z, I'll see where he got it.
Since it's a normal cutout, here's what I would suggest, get you some cutouts and see how you like the sound. If it's too loud, cap it up and forget about it. If it's soemthing you are interested in, the buy the electric gate unit.

any idea how much the electronic actuators are? If i can find the cutouts for less than like $40 and have them welded in for like $30 or something, then that would be ok for now.
I e-mailed the guy who took that picture. He's online a lot, I should be able to get you an answer probably by tomorrow. He said he had to modify something about the motor. Apparently they are prone to fallure because they are designed stupidly, but he figured it out. I wanna say that the actuator is like $80, and of course you would need 2 of them. Then again I could be way off base on that. It's been a long time since I've really looked into them.
That cut out was called the "McCord power cutout"
It was $150.00 each when I emailed them. The web page it was on has been dropped. I cant find it with any searches.
The valve was controlable to 6 posistions, from inside the car of course.
I was going to use it on my borla exhuast tips to control noise.
It was only in 3" when I emailed them. they were working on 2.75" and 2.5" That was why I held off on buying it.
it use to be on http://www.empiremotorsports.net which is now gone.

6 position, now that is SWEET! $300 for actuators is very expensive though :(. That's something I'd definitely have to do later. Perhapse I could get the cutouts and have them put on cheap now and then save up for the actuators later.
How do you describe the sound of the cut-outs, and where did you place yours?

Found the website (took like 30 seconds :p:)

Hmm, so you found it. Thing is I searched last night and couldn't find it. Oh well, here is the reply that I got back from Bakerman
got mine from Matt McMillan. It is a McCord Power Plate. Iinfo on where to order here: http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm
The mods I made are strictly to make it work with my particular setup, which is using a factory convertible top switch to operate it as opposed to the poopiety switch it comes with. I will HIGHLY stress that whoever buys one, pay a GREAT deal of attention to how it actually works. If not, expect to destroy it on the first use. You REALLY DO have to hook it up off the car and play with it to get a feel of how it is supposed to work before you install it. Otherwise, it's toast. All you have is one light to tell you if it's open/closed and the toggle switch. (cont.)
(cont.)
You hold it too long, and you've busted the motor. And the switch doesn't react fast enough, you actually have to let go of the switch before you see the light come on, cause then it's too late. I can see why they've had some problems with it. But I stress that it's not a design problem per se, it works just like it was designed to. But the user has to take some responsibility.
:seeya
You could make the 3 inch work alright. A good exhaust shop should be able to expand your tailpipe to fit it on the input side and then gently taper it back down to fit the muffler. If you look at the size of the opening, it appears smaller than a normal cutout anyway, so perhaps the 3 inch would be better for flow.

WTF!
I searched, and searched...
Anyhow, I noticed they changed the name to power plate 2, and the switch is very different. I have some pics of the old one on my drive, which was a rotary switch.
I think I would break this thing right away with the way it seems to be overly sensitive to use.
