Default Cat-Back Exaust Systems

I am the happy owner of a 1996 coupe.I have installed 100 ft of Rattle Trap and one gallon of sound deadener and am really satisfied with the results. The Bose is very clear and car with new Continental tires is nice sounding: ie' quiet with a dull roar or growl upon acceleration.
I am considering after a few intake mods to add a cat-back exaust system.(MAGNAFLOW,FLOWMASTER,B&B.BORLA.C ORSA POWER EFFECT) They all seem to be close HP improvement, but my main concern is the noise level.Which system will increase HP with out the resonance (DRONE)increase?. My vette cruises at 70MPH at 2000 RPM.(very quiet) Should I just forget it and let my wife sing?.

Corsa seems to be the one you might want to consider. It offers less drone and is not that loud, but louder than stock. Stay with a 2 1/2" system to keep the flow up through the whole system. I have a 3" B&B system that looks great and sounds very deep, more like a big bloch sound. It is all personal taste, but the louder the exhaust the more the resonance will increase. I took the B&B off and modified a stock catback that gave me the sound I love without a lot of resonance. Go to a Vette show or meeting in your area and ask to hear different systems.

Corsa is the only "guaranteed" one. Though if you use magnaflows dual in dual out muffler with an internal x pipe(essentially its a straight through resonator) you should be good to use almost any system im told. Far as flow, any straight through ones will be best. AKA not flowmaster, corsa and I believe borla?

corsa is the only one that even has the word "quiet" in its ad.

put one on my 96 lt4 coupe and am very happy with it; can't compare it to stock, but can say the flowmaster exhaust the PO had put on it was absolutely unbearable.

If the purpose of your cat-back is horsepower without sound increase, honestly I would say forget it. All the cat-back systems give about a 10 horsepower increase, which is not a SOP improvement.

I would agree, leave it alone. I have the magna flo cat back with headers on my modded 89 and love it. However you are going to a lot of trouble to quiet your car. Just enjoy the quiet!

My Corsas sound great. Just got rid of a set of flowmasters which were AWFUL.

I currently have the full 3" catback system on my 93. It has a very deep sound and I have been impressed so far.

Like others have said, if your looking for a performance gain there isn't much with just a catback. Combined with other mods (headers, etc.) it will be more noticeable.

Search my username for pictures and more info on the magnaflow system.

I have a Borla on my 91 and it is loud though it covers the squeaks well LOL.. Tell me more about the sound deadening you did.

Not if you get the Force II system, very little interior noise/resonance.

I found the Rattle Trap from Fatmat sound deadener on E_Bay 100 foot for about $160. Took carpet and seats up but left the console in and folded up the carpet. I put two layers of the material down. I also bought 1 Gallon liquid sound deadener for about $50 from Elemental Designs/e Dead Liquid. I took off the rear plastic wheel wells and painted 3-4 coats, I had enough left to do front wheel wells, all fiberglass areas inside rear fenders and all fiberglass areas under the car. With new Continental tires the car is VERY VERY quiet inside. Took about a week to do ,was not in a hurry. I also re-weatherstripped for about $440, entire 7 piece from VIP Corvette. Good luck and take your TIME

Any power gain youd get from a loud system that resonates bad imo wouldnt be worth it. Some are loud and still dont flow all that great.
Anything other than stock is an improvement, if you need more dig into the motor.

Yes, let her sing.

I doubt you can improve on the factory exhaust; don't really know why people bother.

powerwise definitely but almost always you will get more noise, cant flow more air without it or so it seems.

I also put the rattle trap down in my 87 but thanks for the tip on using liquid sound deadener. When you put this on underneath your car does it stay and not peel off?
