Steering rack input shaft leaking

I have an ls2 powered 63 grandsport with c4 suspension and steering rack. Had my high pressure hose made, hooked everything up and noticed a very mild leak. Since the rack was a used one anyway I decided to go ahead and swap it out for a new(autozone) rack. Put the new/refurb rack in today and it's leaking even worse in the same spot-around the input shaft seal. It's not a pump/pressure issue because fluid will seep when you turn the wheels manually without the car on. Did I just catch some bad luck and get two leaky racks? Should I just buy a seal kit and rebuild the original used rack and take the autozone rack back??

It sounds like you had bad luck. My pinion seal failed and a rebuilt rack cured that.

Try to get a new rack as rebuilt parts have a high out-of-the-box failure rate or don't last long.Rebuilt sucks

Is the input shaft seal where the steering shaft bolts to?

My first rebuilt rack leaked worse than the worn out one I replaced. Second one was not leaking but had too much play. I had to make adjustments that should have been made by rebuilder.
