Aw guys, come-on. Why make a 'Big Deal' out of something so simple. GEEEZZ!

I use different types of bolts all the time - Chrome, Stainless Steel, Torx head, Allen head, Hex-head, Button head, on and on - whatever suits my fancy at the time. I don't see anything Hi-Tech in intake manifold bolts.

Spray the intake Black, then use Chrome bolts and it looks really Cool. Next time swap to Gold and it still looks Cool - or even Cooler. Same thing with the four Throttle Body mounting bolts and the TB plate bolts. How 'bout the fuel rails and their bolts? The possibilities are endless, LOL.

None of those are highly stressed bolts - not like rod or main bolts - so have fun.

If you don't know which length goes where, all you need do is remove the valve covers and let your "eyes" do the test (a version of "Let Your Fingers Do The Walking"). If a bolt is touching a pushrod then it's too long. If it's a blind hole, just stick something in the hole to measure how deep it is (tooth-pick, welding rod, short screw-driver, etc.). Then choose a bolt that's only slightly shorter than what you measure.

No 'Big Deal'.

Jake

Is there any trouble getting a socket on the hex-head type intake bolts? As I know you don't have alot of room. If I replaced the intake gasket, I'd be interested in switching the bolts over to something like a hex-head bolt.

I'd look at ARP bolts. But here are some by Moroso that look like the correct length as the OEM bolt. Though I don't know how good the bolts are:

Getting the socket on the Torx bolts for the manifold isn't that bad. The lower ones in between the runners are a total BITCH! I am going to change the plenum and runner bolts over to allen head this time.

Y'all leave Ch@os alone!

I did the ARP bolts on the 87' and if I had to do it over again, I'd go with the stock Torx bolts! The low profile Torx bolts are there for a reason. The ARP bolt heads are considerably thicker and interfere with the bottom of the TPI runners when reassembling the four manifold pieces! It was aggravating as he!! trying to loosen up the box on top, with wet gasket sealant.

GM outlined the different sized intake bolts in it's 11/90 Bulletin about the head redesign for the new intake gasket. A part number was given for the longer bolts which I couldn't find when I switched to these redesigned 113 heads (and my same length bolts are working just fine). I'd think they'd be available because these heads are used on the ZZ4 and are the OEM replacement. As previously stated, I don't know of any '90's that got these heads so if your '90 has them, I might assume someone swapped the OEM 113's out for the current design (or they needed new bolts and the longer ones came up on the Dealer Parts list). All '91's got them and have (should) the longer bolts which are used on the outside holes. Finding the Vette intake gaskets for these heads, with the coolant restrictors and gasket retainers, isn't easy either since they were only used on the '91. Most of the applications don't have the restrictors because they weren't used on the F-Body and they're not used on the carbed ZZ4's.

Well, I'm a dumbass X2

I did have one of the longer bolts in the even side in the wrong spot and it looked like it could have been binding the pushrod.

Secondly. I had #5&7 wires crossed at the dist cap.

Thank you everyone for your advice/pictures!

Here it is all back together. I'm not overly happy with the paint job on the plenum and runners but it will do until I feel like getting it all powder coated.

Lmao @ch@0s. Yes I second that with the lower runner bolts. The first time I went at it I pulled and pulled like a motherf*&^& to get them to move for 15 minutes and I'm a pretty strong dude. Eventually I heard a snapping.popping sound from each when they gave way that almost sounded like a mini exhaust backfire. I don't know if there was some type of locktite on them or what, but they were in there like bricks. I almost though I damaged the manifold.

I'm glad I looked at this post seeing how I have to do the intake manifold gasket from a leak again it seems. I had them done about 2 years ago. These gaskets must be pretty sh1tty for all the labor it takes to get at em, but I suppose they are under a mass amount of pressure. Good to know about the bolts though. I seem to remember they are different length like said and the longer go on the outside. I think mine were different lengths too.
