Default Fuel Strainer Position: 1995

Hello,

I've searched this and although there has been much discussion, I did not see anything conclusive, so here we go again.

Can someone tell me the correct position of the strainer on my non ZR1 1995?

Late October last year my OEM pump failed with 168K miles. I did not pay attention to the position of the strainer when I removed the old pump.
When I replaced the pump and the strainer (as well as the filter), I positioned the stainer in-line with the car with the long end forward. Well, less than a year later and about 11K miles, the after-market pump died. I removed the pump and the strainer was not attached to the pump. It was adrift in the tank and looked barely used. It may have fallen off when I installed it. I did look at my FSM and noticed the position is sideways, opposite of the way I did it; however, the diagram is displayed looking at the pump sideways, so I can not ascertain if the long end of the strainer should point to the drivers or passenger side of the car

Anyone know?

Thanks!

The long end is supposed to point to the rear of the car. Those things are a difficult to get popped on all the way....with the fuel pump in place push the sock's connector on as far as you can with your fingers then use a flat surface, such as a table top, to shove it the rest of the way home.
