Don't be surprised if the Fox body Stang wins. It's much lighter. Everyone who runs a Stang at the strip run Fox Body's because they are very light.
It's very possible you could beat a 2005-2009 Stang GT with a 4.6L. They weigh almost 4000 lbs. The new Stangs look great but they are sleds. The 2011 with the new 5.0L (425 hp) will dust you off. Bring your friend's C5 ZO6 and he'll get dusted off. Still weighs 4000 lbs.
what are "simple bolt ons," that could make the difference if they are things like ported plenum, big tube runners, ported base...technically heads are a bolt on. as are headers.
IIRC the 91 5.0 did 0-60 in like 6.4sec and the 91 vette did it in like 5.7sec. That should give you an idea. just do some research on 1/4 mile times. Good luck at the track

Makes no difference if it's a 4.1 second 0-60 car running an 8.0 0-60 car. If they driver of the faster car can't...well, you know... driver, it's over.

You're off by 500 lbs. The GT500 comes in at 3900, the regular Mustang GT is about 3500. They don't have the down-low grunt that an L98 has, but stock-for-stock they'd out run one, with equivalent drivers.
You're right about the fox-body stangs though, they are VERY light.
wow really? well its DD fox body and I know that its not gutted or anything...
I doubt that a new a mustang would smoke or beat the C5Z, its dynoed 600+ rwhp supercharged and a real monster...
I was commenting on your '91 vs. a 91 5.0 Mustang Fox body. Anybody in their right mind knows a C5 ZO6 would dust a '91 5.0 Fox Body. If you read correctly I said a C5 ZO6 could probably dust the new 2011 5.0 Mustang because of weight.
I don't know about Fox Bodies being light. The notch backs are the lightest. My buddies 90 GT with the glass hatch weights as much as my Vette. Around 3300lbs. He can pull away from me but very slowly and his isn't stock. Has a 340hp 302 crate motor with the standard T-5 and 3.73 gears.
Every fox body mustang owner I've ever talked to said "mostly stock." If he's rebuilt his engine, you'll never know until you race him. Good way to get a clue is look at the tires. If he's still running 7 inch wide all season street tires, then he probably did go mostly stock. But if he's got 10.5 inch drag radials, he's probably understating what's under the hood.
Pwnage has a point, I became pretty good friends with one of those "mostly stock" mustang owners and when I confronted him about it he said "it's all bolt ons, I bolted on the heads, bolted in the cam, bolted on the pistons, bolted on the gears..."

It's really none of my business, but I think the "he" mundo referred to as getting dusted here was the 2011 5.0 mustang. At least that's the way I read it. And if that's what he's saying, I'd agree with that.
When my car was close to being stock (stock motor, only mods being full exhaust, and some free mods).
I ran a stock 90 LX Truck at Cayuga 3 times down the 1320. He had full exhaust, 3.73's, intake, cai.
I have the timeslips at home, but I took care of him on all 3 occasions. I remember around the 75-85 mph the gap widening. It really wasnt much to brag as my best time was a 13.65, and his 13.9x's.
I thought he was going to take me, but the extra cubes of the L-98 is what won all 3 races. I dynoed 330rwtq (240rwhp), and he wasnt anything close to that.
But now the new 2011 V6's mustangs will prob better my 13.65.
I raced several "back in the day" when they were new. I had an 86 vert. You should be able to take him. Will depend on driver though. A bad start will kill you. My 86 was an auto and easy to launch.
I agree with reoch999, a rebuilt engine is gonna be a mystery, Maybe he put in a heathlier cam or worked the heads, you'll never know.
Now, "bolt ons" has always been a very vague word in the racing world, Im guessing when YOU say bolt ons, you are refering to intake, cat back and tb, maybe even a few free mods. a Fox body with a rebuild, full exhuast and gears, he's probably gonna get you, But hey that just means you got something to shoot for. And remember there is always some one thats fast.....it just sucks when its one of your friends.
Just race him and if you lose, you lose. Try again after modding more.
If you win, tell him whats up lol
