'84 automatic transmission problem.

I hope someone can help me out with an answer. All of my gears work except for the OD gear, I can shift through 1-3 just fine. If I move the shifter to OD it will lock in place but it acts like its in neutral. It has plenty of fluid, the only other important thing is that the car sat for a year and a half due to a bad motor. I replaced the motor and now I have a whole new set of problems. Thanks for any advice.

Try adjusting the tv cable, it hooks to the throttle arm but it has a adjusting button at the bracket. It sounds like it maybe alittle loose(slack), if the cable was tight, you'd have very firm shifts.

If the tv cable is ok, Are you sure the linkage is adjusted right? Also make sure you did not kink a trans coolant line.

Check the shifter linkage.
