I just bought this 89 with very low miles and usage. It had 1/4 tank of gas when I bought it and I added a pint of injection cleaner and filled it with premium. I drove it sbout 100 miles it ran rough when the engine was loaded down at low RPM's but was fine once it got up to speed. I stopped and turned the car off and then it would start but with no power and it would stall right off. After it sat for an 1 hour or so it started right up and ran pretty much as it had before the stop.
I'll start by changing the fuel filter but I'd like some opinions I what else I should do to get it running right.
As background this car has only 13K miles on it and has not been driven much. I would appreciate any other recommendations folks have for setting right. I will change all the fluids, lube it etc. But are there non obvious things I should be checking on?
Fist, you might try to see if the car has any stored trouble codes. Here is a link to a thread/post (post number 18) that will help you to pull any stored codes: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...ps-w-pics.html
A bunch of '89s' have problematic fuel injectors (Multech injectors - non ethenol compliant) issues when using ethenol blended gas.
fuel injectors are a given...almost without question, replace fuel filter (keep originals of injectors and fuel filter OR GIVE THEM TO ME for NCRS rebuild) also consider checking rubber vacuum lines if it was sitting outside.
Its a known fact that fuel injector cleaner is not to be used on Multec injectors. Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake when I got my 89 Vette and before I started asking questions on the Corvette Forum.....WW
Well it's probably not the first mistake I will make. But I appreciate the replies and information. Is there a particular type of injector I should buy? How can I make sure that the new one will run with Ethanol?
Also can I simply replace them or are there calibrations required once the new ones are in?
