Default Nitrous in On!

After months and months of research, purchases, and throwing in a move from Charleston to Nashville I finally had time to get the nitrous installed on my GS. The link below shows some pics from the install minus the window switch and the remote bottle opener. Very, very pleased with how things turned out. I have progressed from the 75 to the 100 and now to the 125 shot and I love it. The car responds very well and pulls like a beast

Great lookin' GS!

The purge in the front looks sweet too! Have you dyno'ed it yet or taken it to the track?

Thanks!......I haven't dynoed it, as a matter of fact, the car hasn't been dyno'ed since '02. I have had quite a few other bolt-ons done prior to the nitrous. I expect that w/ a 125 pill that I should be in the neighborhood of 450+ rwhp. I just found a local shop that I plan to bring it to. I'll keep ya'll posted b/c I am curious where I'm at. I'm going to have to wait to take it to the track, but I can say that it behaves like a completely different car.

I made 445 rwhp / 525 rwTQ on a dynojet with a 100 shot nitrous on an NX wet kit. AFR around 11.9:1.

This was on a 93 lt1 hotcam/ LT headers zf6 car that made 353 rwHP / 355 rwTQ on the same dyno w/o the nitrous.

I did have to go a jet size (or two sizes? ) smaller on the fuel side of the nozzle because the recommended size on the kit made it run too rich and not make as much HP.

My biggest frustration with nitrous was that my 10 lb bottle, when full, made more HP than it did when less-than-full. Even when spraying at the exact same PSI !

Other than that, the 175 rwTQ increase was great (though it should be noted that the TQ increase was greatest when you first 'hit it' and quickly dropped off as you approached redline - due to less cylinder 'fill time' as the crank spins faster and faster).

Be aware that some ltx guys here ran 100 shot's fine and detonated (breaking ring lands) the instant they switched to 150 shot. IMHO their weak link was the factory fuel pump. Switch it out to a hot-wired racetronix walbro 255 l/hr pump for piece-of-mind.

What I envision is a blown motor with nitrous on a window switch, for low RPM punches off the line, then it shuts off around 4000 RPM Then, the blower takes over to redline...

you will run great et's with that stuff at the strip.

Thanks for the feedback and advice.....I had a 255 wlabro installed along w/ the nitrous install for preventive maintenance. The window switch (not shown in the link) is located in my center console and hits at 3,000rpm thru 6,000 rpm where I shift shortly thereafter at 6,200 rpm via my shift light on my a pillar.

125 is going to be it for me. Swapping out the jets tomorrow. I'm surrounded by 1/8 mile tracks, but I think I'll do a quick 50 min commute to the nearest 1/4 mile track in the spring. Really looking forward to seeing what the car will do

Oh!! and dont forget to set your window switch (i got an 'adjustable' pill for the lower limitl) so that it sprays off the line.

Run drag radials (vs. slicks) as the resulting stress on your drivetrain (from nitrous hits off the line) could be a bit much for the d44...

i got my best times spraying the nitrous right off the line with a lowered air pressure drag radial.

Be sure to let off if ytou dont hook. luckily your window switch should protect you.

Pretty Cool! I really like this!
Is it just a piece of plastic screwed into the cup holder area? Very Cool!

No....I believe he used aluminum, and then shaped, cut, and sprayed it. I tell you, these guys made me one happy camper. I do plan to do something with the zex box in the engine bay. I may remove it, mask it, and spray it black or get a small project box from radioshack and cover it. Thanks for the remarks----car's much more fun

Line runs along the base of the car alonf the fuel lines. I didn't want to drill all sorts of holes in the car, so for the bottle I simply mounted the brackets to some particle board and carpeted it before I brought it to the installer. I am going to end up cutting the base out of a black gym bag and throw it over the tank to make it a bit more stealth (kind of like the old compucar nitrous kits. Good luck with the 150 shot; as mentioned earlier I'm at 125. Make sure to spend money on safety items too such as a window switch, upgraded fuel pump, and blow down tube to name a few. Best of luck

I know about it taking time. It took me awhile to figure how I wanted it to be including setting up an entirely sperate electrial system to handle 10 circuits for all add-ons.
here's what I ended up doing so that the trim plate could be removed seperately (boot has hidden zipper to clear aftermarket shifter):

finished:

My first answer would be SURE....a few things I would consider would be if the car is mechanically sound. I wouldn't go crazy on a 84. I would assume that you may want to keep it at the 100 shot range. Fuel should be fine, but I would go ahead and drop in a walbro 255 in tank pump to be on the safe side. I would do your homework on nitrous basics and would lean towards a wet ket vs the dry. Early C4's aren't my strong suit, but I hope this helps....Good luck
