I'm just eying that but it looks like about 20% blockage. Think about that almost 1/4 of your exhaust is blocked.
BTW i think we just stole this thread.. Sorry qws :o

IMO, I don't think its robbing him to much though.
My 68440 aren't blocking the ports at all. I'm using the Freedom series Patriot heads.
After this new engine gets put in I'm pretty sure the Elites will be fine, I don't think the hookers would make to much of a differance.
Also just happen to think, why not take a grinder and just open up your flange a bit so there's a nice smooth flow going into the header?
lol,my response sounds like i was mad,yes of course i know
everything is cool , i posted a new thread so i can get more responses

It never does end. Just last winter I put in the HSR,Heads, and Cam. This fall put in LT1 dual ss exhaust.
Now I've got the engine out to put in the new 388.
Next this will be the NOS..lol..
In my rebuild, I matched the headers to the gasket, and also to the exhaust port on the head. No restriction at all. Sometimes the gasket alone makes a restriction, and will not let the engine exhale as it would otherwise want to do. We really found a mismatch on the intake side during the rebuild.
In my opinion, if you are going to put on headers, then at least get the most from them that you can.
Trimming the gasket is not that demanding, if the gasket is the problem. Just bolt it to the headers using the same diameter bolts and bigger washers (gently...) then you can see what the problem is. Do the same thing on the head, and then you will see what needs to be done.
It's better to have a smaller opening in the head and a larger one in the headers than the other way around.
Here's a photo of the final fit of the gasket and the ported head.
