I have all new engine and I now hear above the valve covers what can best be described as a tappet noise but it runs pretty much ok. I know I need computer chip work but it almost sounds electrical, "arcing noise" and mostly at idle. Thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated.: crazy:
thank you I will check.... my mechanic builds racing engines for many of the outlaws he doubts it's mechanical so we'll see. I haven't taken it back to him.
If you think it is mechanical I would pull the valve covers and have a look.
If you think it is Electrical, check out the wires and hot coil wire in the dark and look for arcing.
Does the noise change with RPM?
Seems to be a bit quieter with RPM, I m beginning to think it's pinging or pre ignition as the rpm's increase it seems to quiet down (advancing in timing?) I think... too cold and icy here to drive it up to my engine guy and it has half a tank of mid grade gas with one container of octane boost and the gas its 6 months old... this should be a true 9.6:1 compression engine now. Also this now has no egr, no air pump (smog) no what was it spark retarder?? anyway I need to have computer chip tune work done but we want to get some miles on this engine get the gas out etc.
...I'm begining to think I need to move over to scan and tune... I also have a tach that bounces down at around 4000...I am thinking EST wire???? thoughts anyone/everyone.
