Default 1990 Antenna Failure

Today when I went to do my weekly warm up of my 1990 "garage queen", my antenna went up but did not return back down when I shut the car off. The antenna motor ran briefly. I believe th edrive ribbon gave out. When i went searching for a fix, I noticed some of the repair kits stated that after the fix it is not uncommon for the antenna not to return flush with the body but instead to stay extended several inches. they mentioned that this is due to a still broken piece of the ribbon staying inside the housing. They made it sound like there is no fix for this. If anybody has a true fix to offer, please respond. Thanks and have a safe and happy New Years.

If you do have a piece of ribbon in the antenna itself, it can be taken apart and removed. But you first have to remove the antenna assembly from the car which is more of a pain the antenna repair. Some of the early antenna assemblies have screws which is nice. But some have plastic rivets which you have to carefully remove the head, drill it out with a small drill, and put in a screw. Here are couple of links for some additional information.

Some of this information may or may not pertain to your exact assembly.
