I had the dealer replace the sending unit which is in the tank when the car was under warranty. Now the warranty is gone and I have problems with hesetation when acelerating around corners with 1/2 tank of gas and high RMP performance from lack of fuel volume delivery.
Any one had similar problem or have suggestions what to check or look for ?
I changed the fuel filter and symptoms went away but returned within a month, and I doubt the filter is clogged again.
Curious if the fuel pump is going bad or ? If yes, is there an aftermarket high flow pump ? Would I need one ? Or how much does the OEM pump cost ?
TPIS makes an in-tank replacement that's good for engines up to 450 HP that costs about $150.
Don't bet that you haven't clogged the fuel filter, tank strainer, or a whole fuel line again. Who knows what happened when it got changed months ago? I got a dealer to change the tank strainer on my '92, and now my gas gauge doesn't work. I had to get a new sending unit.
If you get it only when going around corners, then it is just because the tank baffling is less than adequate. Mine does it at about 1/3 a tank and my wifes does it at 1/4 tank. I think it all depends how accurate your fuel gauge is.
You can go to a fuel cell setup and you wont have to worry about it.
The only baffle in the stock fuel tank is a plastic tub pasted to the bottom of the floor in the tank. It is about 10"x12"x3" and is where the fuel pumps rest and their pickups get the fuel from inside the tub. When the tub goes dry, the fuel pumps starve for fuel and the car bucks. Also, FWIW, the fuel return line does return the fuel back into the tub.
I have even had mine starve for fuel going straight with just under a 1/4 tank. Generally it is mostly noticed on turns though. I usually just try to keep mine above 1/2 tank.
