Default Red Thread Lock

I removed the AIR tubing to my exhaust manifolds and threaded the hole to 5/16" coarse thread then installed a bolt in each. The bolt head looks weird and I was thinking of putting a 5/16th stainless set screw in the hole. Since its all straight thread I need to put something on the threads hopefully to hold the screw in place. All I have handy is red thread lock. Will this stand up to exhaust heat? Anything else recommended? I dont have access to a welder or I would seal it that way.

The engine bay looks sweet without all that crap in there and I installed new wire looms and plug wires easily. I will post up some pics soon.

No it will not work. Heat is used to release it and much less heat than the manifold will have.

Depending on how low you cut the tubes off, you could install the set screw and use a sharp center punch on the side to stake it.

I vote the thread lock would work , the heat resistant one, plummers thread seal would work better, the cap screw idea is excellent.

You would have been better off to tap the holes to 1/8 pipe threads and install brass plugs. The pipe threads are tapered so they get tighter as the plug goes in. I did this on mine 5-6 years ago and they are still tight, no need for thread locker, (which won't work). I was going to weld mine up but that would ruin the ceramic coating.

Well, Duhhheeeee. I am a plumber........brain fart on my part. I read a post from one of the Aussie brothers mentioning he had used an 8mm tap and cap screw so I converted it to SAE more or less and came up with 5/16th. I guess I could still drill it out and tap it to 3/8 and then put a plug in it.

I may even get froggie and grind the top of the plug off with my Dremel to get a smoother look. I might regret it if it comes loose for some reason.

with Agent86. Screw it in and then use a center punch where the threads meet the manifold. That should hold it from backing out or turning. You will have to drill them out in the future. The set screw would look nicer than the brass plugs....just my opinion on the looks.

I agree with AGENT 86.

After you install the plugs of your choice,

Stake the side with a sharp chisel or center punch.

I have done that trick several times in the past on other projects.

Mechanically locked for good. Wont come loose.

Since I have the set screws already, I will try them before I redrill and tap. Any suggestions on what type of sealant would handle the high temps of the manifold?

There is no sealant that will handle the high temps of the exuahst mainfold.

Read post(s) above again.

I can't think of a single product that would withstand the heat at that area.
