Default Ignition question

Last weekend after making six 1/8 passes the car died on us. The distributer was hot to the touch, talking real hot. Everything is new, plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, modual. After about 1/2 hour the car started up just fine. I have never seen this issue while driving it.

If you are saying the car wouldn't crank when hot then starter motor issues when hot are not uncommon. If your saying the engine just cut-out whilst running then that is a different issue.

Have to be more specific.

Guys it is ignition not fuel. I had no spark until the distributer cooled down. Everything is new including the modual and I keep a spare in the glove box. Why is the dist getting hot? Do I need to put a vent in my distributer cap?

You don't say what year your car is. If its an L98, next time it happens, take the coil cover off and see if the coil is getting hot.

The car is a 1990 coupe zz4 crate engine. I did take the cover off and the coil was hot to the touch, I am talking real hot.

Still got the (secondary) ground strap installed for the coil?
Looks like this : http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_667381327___goes in the the center slot for the connection terminals of the distributor cap. The strap can stay stuck in the cap and can be easy to miss when replacing a cap.

Yes I do, they did not have it on before and the cap melted in the center so when I replaced everything I installed one. I did not however check that middle wire to see if it has a good ground.

Center secondary ground wire should be "black" in color

I have got something crazy going on for sure. Sometimes when I launch the car it will go to missing and popping, and this happens if it is cold or hot. We have narrowed it to the wires that plug into the ecm because when we move them around the problem goes away. I made a new 12G ground wire from the battery to the Plentum, it bolts to the throttle cable bracket.

Out of curiosity, did you put grease of some sort on the module base?

I see you think you have a wire at the ecm issue. have you checked to see if the chip is still seated in the ecm?

We did have an issue with one of the chips wiggling but we changed to a different chip.
