Default TPI Runners....?

I bought a lot of TPI units over the course of time....

My question is theres a lot of diffferences in them.. do we know why? which would be the better to run?

My 88 has a small tube about where the EGR is that runs from plenum to base.

I have;
Some without this tube
Some with the tube and a hole (base side)
and I noticed that the small tube is diffferent too??

My egr is unhooked, no codes no problems...

I have plans to port match, polish the runners to that glorious shine (ext), and retain my "stock" runners if I want to return it back to factory look.

Somerunners had small dents or dings... but I have a tool to remove most of them, however my best two one doesnt have the tube, and the other does.

Anyone know why they did this?

I just did my runners, I sanded out the lip at the opening then I hammered a 1.5" steel ball through them to stretch out the tubes and remove all dents. As for that small hole it was for an injector and I just weled it up. I blocked off all EGR passages.

TIP: make sure the tubes are CLEAN, I mean no carbon, no nothing clean before you send the ball throught it. Uses trans fluid to lube things up. I bought five 1 3/8 ***** to chase the 1.5" ball. Go about half way then hammer it back out and go the other direction. This method worked much better then trying to force it strait through.

Stock '85-'88 TPI setups should have an extra tiny tube on both the driver & passenger side runners for the EGR (passenger side) and cold start injector provisions (driver's side).

'89-92 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette still has the tiny tube on the passenger side runner for the EGR but it has no need for a extra tube on the other runner (driver's side) since there is no "cold start" injector (9th injector) on these years.

get rid of it if you want to make some power, either go larger FI or back to a holley and edlebrock
