Default Changing Ign.Timing on LT4

(Tried another section but got no responses.)

Is it possible to change the timing with some computer trick on an LT4? I know it is all timed through the Opti and into the computer where it sees the knock sensors. I just replaced my 3rd Opti and although it runs just fine, the hwy mileage is just a coupe of MPG short of what I'd seen on long hwy. hauls with the other optis. Can the timing be adjusted electronically with some computer nerd trick? Maybe the timing chain is just getting old and retarded.

Go to the tuning section, because you are correct can adjust the timing in the tune....with the right software. I have OBDI so I use tuner cat. I dont know what program the 96 guys use.

You'll see very little if any increased gas mileage changing the stock timing tables.

Tried one of MSD's miserable pieces of junk. That's the sorry POS I just replaced and autopsyed. Full of corrosion straight out of the box so the advance mech never would have worked anyway, and oil in the rotor screw holes that migrated out to the edge of the timing disk and into the photo cells killing them. Result> dead expensive Opti. I could have taken it apart and inspected it before installation, but that is the job of the QC department at MSD (that you pay for in the price of it) , and would have voided the warranty, which passed by as I searched every other part of the engine looking for the misfire problem. As you can tell by now, I'm no fan of MSD (Makes Sh---y Distributors).
I'll check out the device mentioned above, but I think we could all benefit from less Alcohol in our gas.

Use computer tujning software (tunerpro, etc.) To control timing.

Timing, at part throttle, can affect mpg. Typically higher is better for mpg.

Msd optispark is a pos.
