Like they occasionally screech, sounds like front brakes, only does it when I'm slowing down like 20mph or less when coming to a stop at like a light or something, do I need new pads? Also I'm 18 and not totally automotively inclined. So give me the benefit of the doubt for asking on a probably OBVIOUS answer anyone should know.
Thanks!
A glazed rotor or one with ruts in it might cause it to screech. You might using some emery cloth (best) or sand paper (maybe 60 or 100 grit) and roughing up, breaking the glaze.
Might also try to slightly sand down the top and bottom edges of the brake pads. About 1/16 to 1/8 inch 30-45 deg angle (not exact or rocket science).
This may help but sometimes will not cure it forever. Might need to cut rotors or repalce for long term fix. Might need pads to for long term.
Right front brake line has no fluid. I replace right front hose. I would like to know on the Modulator valve which line goes to the right front. The other brakes bleed fine. can you help, Thanks Larry

Larry, I see you are very new to the Forum with 1 post so far.
You should be starting a new thread for this is a completely different topic and not a response to the original question. You also need to furnish the year of your car for there are vast differences between different years. You need this info for specific help. Filling out you profile would be a help also.
Starting a new thread with your year of car in the tech section will get you lots of help. Just on a guess from what I know the earlier vettes (80s) have had bad ABS pumps with restriction to flow at one line.
Welcome to the Forum. Also feel free to offer your assistance and knowledge in regard to answering any question or helping anybody. Everybody has an opinion correct or not. Point is 20 heads are better than 1 and all somebody needs is that one right answer. This is necessary since nobody is at the car being worked on and facts and observations very.

You should be able to drive into a Midas or Big O and have them look at the brake pads to let you know if they are worn and give you an estimate for no charge. Then you can decide if you want to do it yourself or have someone else do it.

Sorry, but my opinion is, your sending a lamb into the lions den. I know that not everyone is mechanically inclined or hasn't learned yet. I think those places are the biggest rip off if you don't know what you're talking about. Bottom line, DOnalds5, get a book and learn to work on that Vette yourself. Brakes are not that difficult. Raise the front end off the ground, remove the tires and inspect the pads on both sides of the rotor and see how much thickness you have. Have a friend help you or ask us if you need to.

it is very simple to be honest, if you have ever done brakes this isnt going to be different. i personally wouldnt take it in but i have been ripped hard at a couple of shops. bought tires once for my 08 charger, they told me it was free installation. ended up killing two of my TPMS sensors, 3 lug nuts, and they never replaced them, ended up costing me $160. i wont be doing that again soon.
The op is 18 years old and "not mechanically inclined". I don't think brakes would be a good place to start learning about auto mechanics. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trust an auto shop to work on any of my cars, but I've been around a few years and know a few things. A shop could show the op that his brakes are ok. If they are fine, he doesn't have to worry about anything but noise. If they show him where the pads are worn down to the scrapers, he can then make his own decision about what to do. If he wants to replace them with the help of a friend, or an fsm, that's great. If the op doesn't have a jack, jackstands, some tools and a torque wrench, then it would be time for someone else to do the job.
Well I've done brakes before on my camaro with my dad, it was definitely a lot easier than I thought it would be. I mean I'd ask him what the noise was, but then I need it fixed right then and there and I'm not driving the vette this week with gas money situation. If you guys think it's the pads being almost out, I'll take a look this week, I got jacks, stands, ramps, compressors, basically all my dads tools at expense haha. Thanks!
