hey guys. Im still trying to sell the vette, but now its gotten to where it wont engage at the shifter. I think its either tranny fluid which Ill look into, or it needs clutch adjustment?
What do u think? The car has 65000 miles, it shouldnt be anything too expensive, it never has given me any problems.. it always shifted heavy, but now it wont even go into any gears.
There's a reason it was almost empty...it's leaking somewhere.
Mine (88 Vert) was slowly seeping out of the slave cylinder. Had a local mechanic replace it for me, total bill $240. I think the part is only like $80.
When I first experienced what you described, I freaked out. Was really close to one of my mechanic friends place and he checked the fluid. Mine too was almost completely empty. Filled it up with Dot3 and was good for about 15 mins and though it was still full, I began to have problems getting it into gear. Once in gear, it grabs fine.
Just remember, it isn't just a fluid level or bleeding issue alone, it is empty because there is a leak. Try placing some cardboard under the car and pump the clutch pedal about 25 times. See if you get any drips around the slave (driver's side, near the oil filter).
well, I went to work in the car, delivered pizzas for 4 hours and it still works fine now.. shifts beautifully.. so I dont THINK theres a leak.. I think it was so low cause I never checked it in the year and whatver months Ive had the car.

If you had to add fluid to make it work, there IS a leak.

I'd call the police immediately and let them know someone is stealing clutch fluid. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, I'm happy to hear it is working for you and isn't an immediate concern but better safe than sorry, I'd figure it out and be sure why.
