Default Dead dashboard after rainstorm

My buddy has my Vette. There was a major storm last night. This morning the car would not start. He got a jumpstart, but now the dashboard seems to be dead. No speedo, no fuel, no odometer.

What should the diagnostic path be?

1990 coupe.

Get the GM electrical diagnosis manual for your car and follow the diagnosis procedure. Check the LCD, cluster, tail, inst fuse with an ohmeter for continuity. If ok, then check if are getting tach pulses out of the distributor. See if you are getting the correct voltage on the fuel sending unit. See if you are getting pulses out of the speed sensor and if so, if you get pulses sent to the odometer.

Seems like the car got super wet - I'd give the car a few days to dry out on its own and then see what is what.

The dash came back but the fuel gauge is still dead. I'm wondering what go wet.

Sit it in the sun with the windows down and the hood up. Sounds like water got in wiring probably near the firewall.

Could be h20 mixed in with the fuel messing with the fuel level sender. It is not that uncommon for the gas tank overflow boot's drain hose to clog and let water back up and run directly into the tank.

The dash is just not giving any readings but is still lit? Do the gauges jump when you start the car then go to nothing?

Check for battery voltage at the 32 pin connector, thats where the dash gets the input. Go to batee.com and you will find the proper voltages listed for each pin in his wiring diagrams. The problem is probly not with the dash unless the windows were down and the top was off the car when it was raining. Engle is probly on the right track in finding the problems.

Good luck!
