I never claimed you were stupid but if you want people to help you maybe you should not slam them?

Your transmission is a 700R4 not a 4L60.

The facts you presented do not pan out.

3.55 gears 1:1 third gear 25.8" corvette tires and 5500 RPM work out to 119 MPH (or what your car is running)

3.55 gears .7 overdrive 4th gear 25.8 tires and 5500 RPM work out to 169 MPH.

The car is most likely in third gear as I mentioned in my previous post.

C4 700R4 valve bodies are highly prized by hotroders outside of the C4 world.

They are like Gold & Glimmering Diamonds to professional transmission guys " In the Know".

Only the C4 700R4 & a few early Z28 TPI cars did they have the upshift from 3rd to 4th overdrive gear range feature at WOT/ Wide open throttle.

It was done with a special TV / throttle valve sleeve, special valvebody separator plate & upshift throttle valve & springs.

Sonnex & B&M have tried to recreate the same 3-4 WOT upshift feature but have never perfected their parts like the original GM C4 engineers did.

Only the original C4 GM 700R4 valvebody works 100 % perfect at 3-4 WOT upshift & holds there till you let off the gas pedal.

Your transmission wont upshift to 4th at WOT no matter how hard you push down on the gas pedal.

You are stuck in 3rd gear because the correct WOT 3-4 upshift parts are long gone.

My 87 Vert 700R4 upshifts from 3-4th WOT @ 114mph every time.
And stays in 4th till I hit top end of 150MPH.

I rebuilt the 700R4 myself so no one else could steal the special valvebody & components.

Had the heads up from my friend Jeff H. that is long time automatic transmission builder.

He told me what happens to other guys with C4 transmissions that bring them into other shops for rebuild.

He said you can kiss your special C4 Valvebody goodbye forever.

Brian
That explains why my 700r4 acts the way it does in my '92 with 3.73 gears. My tranny shifts from 3 to 4 without letting up on the gas only when I'm going 55 mph or faster. Any time I'm going slower it will only shift to 4 if I let up on the gas. I've always thought something was wrong, but now it sounds like my 700r4 was designed to do just that. This happens at lower speeds for me due to the 3.73 gears. Thanks for the info.

i bought the car from my friend. He bought it new from gm dealers in moscow in 1993 .he never repaired the car. Only 25 kmiles he drives it.every time the car was serviced in gm dealers. I have all the papers from 1000miles to 25000. Oil change, spark plugs, filters. Nothing more. My tranny is 4l60, not 700r4.

"Hi. My car is 92 383 Vette with dana 44. Man, who sold me dana , told that it is 3.55. Max speed of my car now is 120 m/h on 5500 rpm. I checked the rear end calculators ,but if i use 0.70 fourth gear ratio it shows larger speed. Can somebody tell me max speed of your cars with 4L60 & 3.55 rear end?"

The reason I said 700 R4 is because you listed 1992 in your original post.

If the car is indeed a 1993 that changes everything because the computer controls the shifting on 1993 and newer vette's. There are transmission table shift points in MPH and transmission shift points based on MPH. The transmission will only shift when both criteria have been met, so if the MPH table is way above 5500 RPM at WOT the transmission will not shift to 4th or overdrive.

My car is 1992 with 4L60. Not 4L60E.It is not computer controlled.

Nope.
Although GM went to a 4l60E in most of their cars and trucks in the 1993 model year, the Corvette did not receive an electronic transmission until the 1994 model year.
The 4l60 is the same type transmission as the 700r4, just with a name change about 1988 or so.

Well, you are the trans guy here. Can you tell if it is TC or trans.

I think it's common sense at that speed it's like driving a 3 speed with 3.55 gear, but what do I know.

I completly forgot the Corvette not getting the 4L60E until 1994, thanks for the correction.

Alx is in Russia, if I recall correctly. Without having the car here, all I can do is guess. I stand by my opinion (correct or incorrect) that a torque converter that is costing a car 40 mph in top speed due to slippage would make so much heat it would roach the trans.
If the 4th apply band/servo arrangement is slipping, it too would burn up the trans.
I also know that Alx is a good wrench, and is very savy.
That is what makes this really confusing.
If he was a normal, shade tree mechanic, I would tend to agree that it may not be shifting to 4th. If Alx says it is shifting to 4th, I believe him.

Makes sense then, so if this happens almost either way you have to pull the trans I assume.

I apologize to all.....I am really stupid. Many of you have told me - this is third....I didn't believe you. Today I tested the car and found ,that normally it is shifting in to 4-th , but when I pushed pedal to full throttle - it doesn't shift ! You can see on video , when it was about 120 I slightly pulled throttle back & fourth shifts.....Now my car is fast again ,but how to solve this problem? One of you told about it ,but may be there is an article here in the web about it ?
I don't understand ,why it is working in this way after I installed shift kit ? Before rebuilding all gears shifts on WOT.

Again many many sorries from me .....

I think your car is working right. I found the article below on a transmission forum. BTW, your car sounds great and runs well too. Maybe one of the transmission guru's will chime in. I know the article relates to a 700R4 but a 4L60 is pretty much the same. The 3-4 clutches are pretty weak on these transmissions and not allowing the 3-4 shift probably saved GM some warranty work. It looks like you may need this part. Good luck!!

http://www.tcsproducts.com/products/product/252/

Most 700R4s will not let you hold fourth gear at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). Some of the high performance models allowed you
to do this, as well as the Police Car packages like that found in the Caprices upfitted for police use. There are two ways to allow
your car to hold 4th at WOT. You can either install the "Police Package Correction kit" which is available from your GM Dealer, or
you can either block the Detent passage in your Throttle valve plunger bushing, or just replace the plunger bushing with an
aftermarket one from companies like Superior. The GM Valve kit is P/N 8671953. It replaces the 3-4 shift valvetrain. Or you can
use the Throttle Valve bushing from Superior, or you can modify your existing bushing, but it requires alot of work, you may just
want to buy the aftermarket one!

What some people are pointing out is that at WOT the transmission will downshift from 4th or overdrive to 3rd gear and it will not shift back to overdrive or 4th gear until you take your foot off the gas. Only corvettes and some 350 GTA's and Camero's had the correct factory valve body to allow WOT 4th gear operation. All other 700 R4 will downshift into 3rd gear at WOT even when the shifter was placed in overdrive or 4th gear. You need to get a Corvette valve body to allow WOT 4th gear operation. Since your car appears to only go 125 MPH at WOT and is running 5500 RPM it appears your valve body parts or entire valve body have been switched to one that will not operate in 4th gear at WOT.

Changing the gears or torque convertor is not the correct answer, fixing the forced 3rd gear downshift is the answer.
Here was the info in the previous post. I wonder if you shift kit is the cause. A gasket might be blocking a fluid passage or a valve not functioning like it should. Most of the shift kits would be for the regular 4l60 and not have the 4th gear upshift at WOT.

удачи, друг

I called a friend of mine and he has one. I was going to see if you wanted it shipped. Holy Crap......the UPS calculator said $150.00 or something close to it......for shipping a $25.00 part. Do all parts from the US cost that much to ship? Surely not. That was for a box 4"x3"x2". Wow, don't order a short block.

I've shipped parts to foreign counties, and the US Postal Service was by far the cheapest route.

It's been a while, but I think you can buy a replacement valve for the valvebody to allow full throttle 3-4 upshifts. Some aftermarket companies sell these.

K015 700R4 Transmission upshift sleeve Superior Fairbanks
List Price: $45.25
Competitors Price $36.00
Your Cost $32.79
You save $12.46! In Stock

The Superior Up-Shift Sleeve will service all 700-R4 valve bodies 1981 through 1993. This sleeve allows full throttle 3-4 up-shifts. The 4-3 detent will become less sensitive at part throttle. The 700-R4 Up-Shift Sleeve can be installed without removing the valve body from the case.

Missing MTV hole in the valve body steel separator plate.

Add the required MTV hole.

3-4 upshift will take place @ WOT & will stay in 4th gear till you lift off the gas pedal.
