rebuild

Ok, I got the console off (2 bolts hiiden under the carpet inside the arm rest). With the key out I measured about 10,0000 ohms.With the key in on position I measured 12.1v at the gear selector switch( a purple and a yellow wire). When I turn the key it drops down 9-10v's. I tried jumping 12vs to the purple wire but nothing happened. Not sure if I'm doing this right? Please advise.
